The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has been on a roll recently, with three arrests in quick succession featuring travellers determined to smuggle contraband in and out of the country.

According to a statement from the body, three people, a Ghanaian, Liberian and a Nigerian, have all been arrested in recent days attempting to smuggle, in various forms, hard drugs through the Kotoka International Airport.

Madugu Suraka, the Ghanaian, was arrested on March 29 on his return to Ghana from Kenya, having swallowed cocaine and heroin into his system.

Next to be arrested was Maxwell Momo Golafe, the Liberian, who was on his way to China with slabs of dried leaves suspected to be weed in his luggage.

The final suspect was Daniel Njoku Egbuta, a Nigerian, who was picked up on his return from Brazil, having swallowed 111 pellets of cocaine. A urine test confirmed his smuggling attempt and he confessed thereafter.

According to the statement from NACOB, all three have been arraigned for prosecution and would face the full rigours of the law.
