Mr Eazi Announces Charterhouse Boycott – I Might Join Shatta To Do A Show On The Same Day As VGMA Next Year

Mr Eazi was one of those who left this year’s VGMA empty handed, after he was beaten to the African Artiste of the Year by Runtown.

Eazi’s chances of winning awards had been severely handicapped by the VGMA board, who refused to enter his songs as indigenous songs, despite Eazi releasing most of them here in addition to his home country.

Asked about the awards scheme by Live Fm’s Vanessa Gyan, Eazi did not hesitate to blast Charterhouse, whose awards scheme he claimed had lost relevance.

He said he knew he was not going to win (the Best African Act) due to his contentious relationship with Charterhouse.

“I knew I wouldn’t win. Last year, they tried to book me for Ms. Malaika and they didn’t want to pay me and I said, ‘I wouldn’t leave Naija to perform for Ms. Malaika.’ They called for me to perform at this year’s VGMA’s and my manager was charging a fee and they did not oblige.”

He added: “I don’t even see the awards as relevance (sic) for the people. How can Medikal not win an award? Why is Mzvee in any category? No disrespect but does she have a movement and what music did she put out? The award has lost its relevance. If it weren’t for me being overseas, I would’ve had a show the same day of the event, next to the venue,”

He added that he’s boycotting all things Charterhouse, and that he just might join Shatta, another artiste on Charterhouse’s blacklist, to hold a show to coincide with the VGMA’s next year.

“Anything with Charter House I’m not interested until they pay me and I may just team up with Shatta Wale next year and actually hold the concert I previously mentioned at next year’s VGMA’s,” he said.
