President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says his government would display a zero tolerance for violence such as the one carried out by Delta Force operatives in the Kumasi the past few weeks.

In his Easter message to Ghanaians, Nana Akufo-Addo said all crimes would be dealth with swiftly with no fear or favour, noting that “crime has no political colour under my government.”

The senseless violence perpetrated by the vigilante group, which first attacked the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator before storming a courthouse to free its members arrested for that atrocity, has led to calls for the NPP to rein in its thugs or for them to be punished. Their recent sentencing to pay only a fine for their actions attacking the courthouse has been seen as too lenient.

Nana Addo, however, says the rule of law would not be disrespected under his tenure.

“Inasmuch as the law enforcement agencies and the judiciary have moved in to apply the laws of our land, let me reiterate that it will not be under my watch that the people act with impunity neither will it be under my watch that the laws of the land will not be respected,” President Akufo-Addo warned.

He added: “That will not happen, crime has no political colour under my government”

The President tackled other issues in his first ever Easter address, which you can watch here.
