Actor Prince David Osei has called on all stakeholders in the Ghanaian movie industry to stand up against the influx of Mexican and Indian soaps or they’ll all be out of jobs soon.

David Osei, in a fiery post on Instagram, described the foreign soaps as ‘garbage’ which are being shown by all stations to the detriment of Ghanaian movies.

“Almost every TV station you tune in to lately is either showing a Mexican or Indian soap. My fellow Ghallywood actors, let’s wakeup, speak up and stop the hypocrisy; else we will all be out of JOB soon.” David Osei posted on Instagram.

His post showed a picture of Kumawood actors demonstrating to save the local industry, holding some placards which bash soaps like ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ which has taken over the airwaves.

@Regrann from @eddienartey – I just got to know that my colleagues FILMMAKERS in KUMAWOOD have started this Campaign today. I should be holding the Second Placard from LEFT. These Indian and Mexicans soaps are MAJOR contributing factors to the declination of the GHANA MOVIE INDUSTRY. ALMOST Every TV station you tune in lately is either showing a Mexican or Indian soap. My fellow GALLYWOOD ACTORS, let’s WAKE UP, SPEAK UP and stop the hypocrisy else we ALL be out of JOB soon. That’s if someone of us are not already out. THIS IS THE TIME!!! #supportghanamovieindustry???The sad part is these companies in Ghana will never support movies/tv series yet they will boldly sponsor foreign garbage on television which doesn’t add any value to our entertainment industry or create employment..? #supportghanamovieindustry??#supportourown?

Do companies support Ghanaian movies even if they aren’t doing well, just for being Ghanaian? Osei seems to think they should, but the world of business doesn’t work that way.
