Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah has blamed the nation’s current state on former President John Dramani Mahama looting the country’s coffers, and called for patience for Nana Akufo-Addo to gradually fix the mess.
Despite a promise to curb the previous government’s borrowing excesses, the NPP government has in recent weeks signed several deals with other countries/international bodies which indicate they are going back on their promise.
However, the preacher, who is close to the President, said Akufo-Addo is forced to borrow due to the economic mess left to him by John Dramani Mahama, who together with his brother and cronies chopped all of Ghana’s money.
“It is too early to condemn Nana Akufo-Addo’s government; it is too early. People should stop saying that Nana Addo said he won’t borrow money and that there is money in the country,” he said on Okay Fm.
“There is money in the country but those before him have created the economic mess in the country, putting pressure on Nana Addo to stabilize the economy and so we have to be patient with him. Why won’t he travel and borrow when President Mahama, his brother and friends have milked the nation’s coffers dry?” Owusu Bempah heatedly asked.
According to him, the former govenrnment drove Ghana into a ditch and thus the current President should be given the necessary support to fix it.
“Who can stand somewhere to say that Nana Addo is corrupt? Nobody can say that and so I believe that God will use him to help the country to get to its rightful position in the world,” he continued.
“So if Nana Addo is travelling for financial assistance and borrowing to develop the country, then it started from somewhere. It is due to what President Mahama did when he was in power; he destroyed and pushed the country into a ditch,”
