North African side Libya have lodged a complaint with Fifa calling for a world cup qualifier to be replayed because the referee’s wife hails from Tunisia, their opponents.
The game, which Tunisia won 1-0 last year, was affected by poor officiating decisions, later even leading to the referee being banned.
The game’s Kenyan referee, Davies Omweno, is married to a Tunisian wife and Libya argue that might have influenced his poor decision making on the day.
Libya had a perfectly good goal disallowed in the game, before their captain was shown a red card. Tunisia later won the game via a penalty.
CAF banned Omweno for three months for his poor officiating.
Libya have now filed a new protest with the world governing body, calling for the November 11, 2016 game to be replayed.
Their protest comes in the wake of a similar replay ordered by Fifa due to poor officiating by Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey in a qualifier between Senegal and South Africa.
