Founder of the Ghana Freedom Party and Ghana’s resident political comedian, Madam Akua Donkor, has threatened to sue the NPP and President Nana Akufo-Addo, alleging that they stole her idea of Free SHS without giving her credit.
The recent roll out of the free SHS program has generated a lot of discussion and Akua Donkor is now adding her voice to the conversation.
Speaking to the Daily Heritage newspaper, she claimed that she came up with the Free SHS idea which the NPP stole prior to the 2012 elections.
“As soon as Nana Addo set his eyes on my posters [in 2012] and saw my message, he started talking about running a free senior high school programme.” Akua Donkor told the paper.
“…Free education was my idea. Nana Akufo Addo’s ideas were All Die-Be-Die and ex-president Mahama also came with “Edee bee keke. President Akufo Addo has sidelined me and does not invite me for his programmes and therefore I cannot support him,” Akua Donkor added.
According to her, she doesn’t mind that the policy has been implemented but she wants to be credited as the originator of the idea or she would sue the NPP.
