The current free SHS rolled out by the Akufo- Addo led government has revived the trunk business which for a decade nearly collapsed.
Students and parents are thronging James town to request for trunks to be able to travel to their respective places to benefit on the Free Senior High School Education.
A seller revealed; “It appears students were used to briefcases and other ways of packing their things in school. Making trunks was not fast moving like now. So we resorted to manufacturing buckets and other things but just last week people started coming over for us to make trunks for them. I have about 100 trunks to produce before the close of today”
As a result, the price of trunks both the mini size, and the bigger size has shot up to match the demand. The mini size which was GHC 120.00, now sell at GHC180 and the bigger size is now GHC200.00 prior to it being GHC150.00.
