The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have announced that women would finally be allowed to drive in the country.
The ultra conservative Islamic kingdom was the only country in the world which did not allow women to drive, a decision based on a mixture of religion, culture and simple pure a*shole-ry.
The BBC reports that King Salman has issued a decree to set in motion events leading to women being allowed to drive.
The longstanding ban has been a point of contention with many women’s rights group fighting it, and many are rejoicing at the new directive.
“[I’m] very, very excited – jumping up and down and laughing”. Campaigner Sahar Nassif told the BBC.
“I’m going to buy my dream car, a convertible Mustang, and it’s going to be black and yellow!”
Diplomatic praise for the move is coming in from across the world to Saudi Arabia, but the truth that any regime that does not recognise women as first class citizens in 2017 deserves zero praise at all.
Saudi Arabia, perhaps the most religious nation in the world, embody all the worst aspects of religion. And by being oil rich, civilized nations have to treat them as co-equals and never talk about their human right abuses.
Money really is the root of all evil.
