The President of the Ghana Actors Guild, Samuel Fiscian, has bemoaned the lack of work available to most actors in Ghana.
According to him, most people in the industry are jobless because there’s little money in it and thus production has gone down.
This has reduced the number of roles available and even then, the roles keep going to the same few actors.
Fiscian was speaking when the Guild paid a visit to Mrs Pearl Esua-Mensah, CEO of the Media General Group (MMG), owners of TV3 and its affiliate stations.
“…The ordinary actor is jobless now… Majority of our people are jobless,” he said.
“You hardly have productions going on. Even the few, which are going on, you have just a handful of people, especially those who have made it to a certain level [getting all the roles]” he added.
Fiscian said the influx of foreign content has really disturbed the industry, adding that “We acknowledge the fact that the taste of the Ghanaian has changed,”
“We need to up our game. We are working towards training”. he added.
