Students at the University of Ghana in Legon, some of whom run out of fear from Saturday night’s explosion, have been speaking out about their experience.
The students felt the heat emanating from the explosion so intensely some felt they were on fire themselves.
Speaking to the Graphic Online, the students were fraught with emotion as they talked of their ordeals.
“I couldn’t stand the heat. It was unbearable. I felt like a fire has been poured on me”, Kingsley, a resident of James Topp Nelson Yankah Hall, told the site.
“It looked like I was watching a movie…. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing”, he said.
Bismark Otchere, also a resident of the Nelson Yankah Hall, said it was only God who saved him and that he had to spend the night at another hall.
“My heart was in my mouth yesternight. I haven’t seen this thing before…. I thank God that nothing happened to me. I had to pass the night at Kwapong Hall…that is where I ran to during the explosion…most of the guys here ran to Kwapong”.
“There was extremely hot air everywhere.” another student, Matilda Quaye, told the site.
“I didn’t know where it was coming from so when I came out from the room, I heard a loud noise and saw that the whole skies have changed to orange colour.
“After the first explosion, another explosion came….there were more than four explosions…it was really scary. Everyone was running”. she added.
