Uhuru Kenyatta Wins Disputed Kenyan Election Run-off

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has won a disputed runoff elections which was boycotted by the opposition and is likely to face another legal challenge.
Kenyatta garnered 98% of the total votes cast, although the figure is tampered by the fact that the opposition leader Raila Odinga boycotted the polls and instructed his supporters not to vote.
Turnout for the election was thus a miserable 39%, less than half what was recorded for the first round polls.
According to the BBC, even though the election was suspended in 25 constituencies due to security concerns, the country’s electoral commission went ahead to declare the results.
August’s first polls was also won by Kenyatta, but was historically annulled by the country’s Supreme Court in a landmark ruling which ordered a run-off. However, political crackdown on the opposition led to Raila Odinga to pull out. He is expected to challenge the results of this election as well in court.
