Joselyn Dumas has an interesting backstory to her acting career which many other actors certainly do not have; she was actually working as a paralegal before she found an opening into showbiz and embraced it with glee.
It might have been a difficult choice and certainly a risky one, but Dumas’ gamble has worked out for her and she says she has no regrets abandoning law for the big screen.
The ‘Potato Potahto’ star recently had a sitdown with Showmax and opened up about her career, the challenges she has faced so far and even how it all began for her.
Dumas said whilst working as a paralegal, she got the chance to audition for a show and she was chosen. Therefore when the two jobs started conflicting, she dumped law and went for acting, which is something she had always targeted.

“Acting is something that has always been in me – my paternal grandmother was in the arts. She was a lecturer in Performing Arts at the University of Ghana, so acting is something that I couldn’t run away from. It’s something that I’ve always loved and I knew that I could be good at it if I put my mind to it.” she revealed.
“But I realised that I couldn’t just do it (acting) while working in a law firm.” she added. “So it just happened, it was planned at all….But it was time to move on and I don’t have any regrets at all.”
Dumas also talked about what she considers when taking on a new role, and said for her the story is always key.
“Since I am an artist as well, if the role I am given is telling a powerful story, I am not going to say no. I wouldn’t go completely n*de but if it is a powerful enough role that is going to send a powerful message out there, I don’t know why I should say no to that.”
The actress, who currently hosts the talk show ‘Keeping it Real with Joselyn Dumas’, which airs every Saturday at 8:30pm on GhOne Tv, also revealed that she would love to star Starz currently running show ‘Power’, calling on 50 Cent to write in a new role for her.
“Power is just so realistic, there are times when I am watching it and I wish to be part of it. I get so envious. 50 Cent better write me in, because I can’t take any role from the other actors, they all play it so well.”
Dumas also spoke about her roles in other shows such as ‘Shampaign’ and ‘Adam’s Apple’ and other issues concerning her career.
