Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, known in Showbiz as Ebony, painfully passed away on the 8th of February 2018, after a horrible car accident.
Ebony, in 3 short years on the music scene, had built herself up as the true dancehall queen and was on the way to being adjudged the ‘Artist of the Year’ at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
To say her death is a true shock to Ghanaians would be an understatement — it was an earth shattering event which people are still getting to terms with.

  1. Ebony was born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng on the 16th of February, 1997. She died aged 20, a week before her 21st birthday.
  2. Her parents were Nana Opoku Kwarteng and Beatrice Oppong Marthin.
  3. Everyone in her family calls her Nana Hemaa.
  4. Ebony was what we would call down here in Ghana a ‘last baby’, the last child of her parents.
  5. Ebony is an alumni of Seven Great Princes Academy in Dansoman and the Methodist Girls High School at Mamfe.
  6. She was known as ‘Corruption’ during her high school days.
  7. She dropped out of school after SHS to concentrate on music.
  8. Bullet of ‘Ruff n Smooth’ fame discovered Ebony after she found out his contact and sent him a demo of herself singing. He was so impressed her signed her immediately.
  9. Her first song was titled ‘Dancehall’, but her major breakthrough was 2016’s ‘Kupe’
  10. Despite her young age, Ebony had already received nominations in and won close to 20 national awards.
