Last year, Medikal managed to land seven nominations at the VGMA’s, the most of any artist, and ahead of the event he was very confident he would be carrying some of those awards home.
However, in a memorable night, Medikal watched painfully as all seven awards were given out and he did not land even one of them.
A year on and as another awards night approaches Medikal, real name Samuel Frimpong, has opened up about the trauma of that night.
According to him, he was devastated after that night but Shatta Wale made him understand that awards aren’t everything.

“I felt devastated but I understood that. I recorded like 100 songs and only a few made me. But the awards don’t make you who you are. Shatta is my good friend and he hasn’t got that awards but he is going up. I am an entertainer so I won’t let those things bring me down…” he said.
Medikal defiantly added: “Criticisms don’t stress me. Just as battery is positive and negative I need it all to fuel my fire. It doesn’t let me down. I need it in my system. If no one is talking about me I feel bad…”
