The misery for African countries continues. After Egypt lost their second consecutive game on Tuesday fellow North African side Morocco also fell to Portugal in a tight game Group B game earlier today.
A 4th minute Cristiano Ronaldo header gave Portugal all three points despite an impressive second half comeback from Herve Renard’s side.
Morocco turned up the heat on Portugal in the second half, creating uncountable number of chances, yet they remained wasteful in front of goal.
This result, coupled with their opening day loss to Iran, means Morocco becomes the first side to mathematically exit the 2018 World Cup.
Egypt, who lost to Russia, are also all but out but not yet mathematically out.
This defeat means African sides have lost 6 out of 7 games played at the world cup, a complete embarrassment.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal puts him solely atop the goal king chart for the tournament with 4 goals.
