Dr Oluwatobi Saani Daniel, aka Tobi Saani, CEO of Nigeria-based State of Mind Entertainment who recently got married to the Ghanaian female songstress, Becca, has said in order for one’s music to be accepted and recognized beyond his or her borders, there should be a stronger promotion for that.
He opined that artistes need to work extra hard outside their comfort zone by presenting themselves severally in areas where they want their songs to trend.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Zylofon FM’s Showbiz Agenda with the host Sammy Flex, the CEO disclosed that in Nigeria they will only accept a song from an artiste for airplay when that particular musician has landed in their country and has performed some shows to promote their brands.
“Here in Nigeria, musicians from other parts of the world are required to be present physically with their contents before their songs can be played on the airwaves. Musicians must learn to promote their works extensively to gain recognition.
“If other musicians come down to Nigeria with their songs, we would be forced to play their songs. If you don’t come your songs won’t be played.”

Tobi further added that even though some Ghanaian artistes like Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Becca, MzVee and Shatta Wale have been collaborating with some popular Nigerian musicians, they should put in more effort because studio collaborations are not enough to gain the attention of Nigerians.
“Studio collaborations are not enough. Musicians must do joint collaborations often, embark on a media tour and perform those songs together on stage in promoting their music to break through other music markets.”

Adding to his words he stated that in Nigeria, they know only Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, King Promise, Kidi and the “Angela” hitmaker, Kuami Eugene.
“Yes, there is a broadcasting policy but Ghanaian artistes like Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Kidi, King Promise and Kuami Eugene are on top of Nigerian playlist most times,” he revealed.
