How To Make SMOOTHIES | GC Staff Writer Has The Easy Steps For You!

fruit-smoothies1

I recently found out that smoothies are without question one of the best food ideas of the last century! Don’t let the fancy name fool you; there really isn’t anything extraordinary about making one… Yes, I said making one! You don’t need to buy it if you know how to make it!

But that’s not all the upside to this yummy invention (Bless his heart, whoever thought of the idea) not only is it incredibly healthy, it can also be a delicious “forbidden” treat! So, whether you’re trying to lose some baby fat or gain a few pounds, it’s your best bet! It’s all about what goes into it!

Now I know nobody ever needs a manual on how to gain weight (it’s a lot easier to put on than to lose) so let your imagination run wild with the junk if that’s the line you are towing. I will however concentrate on making healthy smoothies and why they are good for you.

Smoothies are surprisingly easy to make at home. All you need is a blender, nothing fancy, a few inexpensive food items, and almost anyone can make a smoothie.  And you don’t have to pay a ton of money to get one either. Here’s how it’s done.

First add your liquid – The liquid is considered the base of your smoothie, and it can greatly affect how your smoothie tastes, so choose wisely.  Depending on your diet, you can add quite a number of things as a liquid for your smoothie. You can add water if you have nothing else, but there are lots of other ideas to try out. Milk is one of the most popular choices, as is coconut milk (that is blending both coconut and water to paste), coconut water, tea and coffee. Also, fruit juice of any kind is good if you want an extra sweet base.

Why Do I Feel Nobody Is Talking About Child Sexual Abuse In Ghana?

crying baby

I’ve noticed that sexual abuse amongst children in Ghana is very prevalent, yet what is saddening about this issue is that little or no attention is given to it. This unfortunate situation is not new, since I have a lot of friends who went through. It is just one of the many issues that have been swept under the rug, for what reason I cannot understand.

Whilst chatting with one of my male friends, I discovered that his first sexual encounter was at the age 7, with the house help. I was even more surprised that he did not consider it as a form of abuse. He told me that it was not uncommon amongst his circle of friends to have been taught sexual practices at very tender ages by either relatives or house helps. I spoke to a few other people to ascertain the truth and this is what they had to say:

“I remember when I was about 8 years old; the house help would put her hand in my private part anytime we were alone. She warned me not to tell anybody”

“I was molested by a close relative who I used to call Uncle when I was a child. He made me do certain things I don’t want to talk about now”.

“I was molested by an older cousin who was staying with us. And he warned me never to tell anyone”

From what I discovered, child sexual abuse could take many forms. It was also not limited to any gender. Both young girls and boys suffered various forms of abuse from adults who were supposed to care and protect them.

Upon further probing, I found out that most of these victims were scared to open up to their parents about the experiences. They believed that either their parents were not going to believe them, or they would end up receiving beatings rather. This fact is not surprising because in the Ghanaian society children are always taken for granted because we believe that children do not know much. It is also glaringly obvious that most parents did not have an open relationship with their children.

At the end of the day, most of these children had to keep it to themselves and this have had a lot of effects on their on their sexual and emotional lives. Can you imagine a guy friend telling me, he had always thought that the only purpose of having a woman was to have sex with her? This is because right from childhood he had been experimenting with sex so he did not have any value for it.

Sexual abuse can also steal the confidence and self-esteem from a child. I believe that childhood is a magical and precious period for any person, and it is during this period that certain characters are built. No one deserves to have their childhood stolen from them.

Dress Code, Does it Matter?

black woman

Of course it does…

Somewhere last year I went to Hugh Masakela’s concert with my in-laws. We were having a really good time till a lady I know from around town came to sit by us and tried to get my attention. What did I do, I totally ignored her.

Not because I don’t like her, in fact I have no reason to not like her but we are not best friends so on a normal day I will be nice. But you see, this was a public function and I was among people who respect me and this girl came wearing neon coloured leggings, drawing out her huge bum, with a blouse which I believe was originally meant to be a chemise and a red wig with makeup like a traffic light. Bear in mind that this is an adult function with mainly grown, respectable men and women and it would draw negative attention to me to introduce someone like that as a friend.

But if she had worn something more appropriate, I might have let her sit with us and join in the conversation. You simply need to wear the right thing. Do not walk into a decent place looking like a showgirl off the streets of Vegas. Even if you are, is it the right place?

In the same vein, you cannot walk into somebody’s office wearing what you wore to the night club yesterday! When you do such things, you ridicule and pass judgement on your character even before you are addressed.

Have you ever been to a wedding and gotten confused about who exactly the bride is? Basically because there are too many ladies dressed more flamboyantly than a peacock—even more disturbing, at traditional weddings when the bride is easily overshadowed.

I dare say some friends do this deliberately because nothing explains how you know you are not the one getting married but still you wear a white gown with a train or combine the most expensive lace with the most expensive Kente to sew a dress that is big, attractive and fluffy enough to be spotted from miles away. Then as if that is not enough, you top it up with diamond shoes and a hat that will literally provide shade for anyone within 300 yards of you.

Victoria Hammah’s Family Members Are Crying & Pleading That She Should Be Given A Second Chance…

Victoria Hammah’s Grandmother crying

The Victoria Hammah talk will not end anytime soon. Apart from the various politicians who have jumped unto the saga, the Victoria Hammh’s family members at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region are also talking—and they want Vicky to be given a second chance by President Mahama.

Beyond their apologies and pleads, they’ve even pulled in a connection which indicates that Victoria Hammah is related to President Mahama…

Should Victoria Hammah be given any chance this soon?

According to Ghanaian Chronicle;

The family of the beleaguered former Deputy Communications Minister, Victoria Hammah, at Kintampo has called on President John Dramani Mahama to “temper justice with mercy” and reinstate their daughter.

According to the family, they were not in any way condoning the alleged unethical behaviour of Ms. Victoria Hammah, or justifying the issues talked about on the said leaked audio recording,, but were pleading with the President to save them from the shock and disappointment the dismissal had brought them.

Madam Akosua Nimo, Grandmother of the beleaguered deputy Communication Minister, disclosed that Vicky Hammah and President Mahama were siblings, explaining that the President’s mother, Abena Kupor, was a direct sister of her (Akosua Nimo). “Victoria is a sister of John Mahama, because Abena Kupor is the mother of John Mahama, who is my sister.” Vicky Grandmother stressed.

Madam Akosua Nimo further indicated that Victoria Hammah, from her childhood, aspired to become a politician and had taken serious actions towards achieving that dream, so her appointment came as a justification and a fulfillment of a dream, which was a joy to the entire family and the people of Kintampo.

FOR THE TECHIES: You Can Now Use Your iPhone As THERMOMETER

Iphone Thermometre

In a recent video of physicist Michio Kaku, he brilliantly talked about how things around us will give us daily health check status in the year future and it seems we are close to this…

A new iPhone thermometer app has been launched and it can tell worried parents if their child’s temperature is too high, and guide them through a list of symptoms.

This is how it works; the technology uses a thermometer which plugs into the phone’s jack to read temperatures. After which, it will display the temperature on the screen, alongside a chart of possible symptoms for users to self-diagnose.

The thermometer app called Kinsa Smart Thermometer also keeps records of health issues, and gives users an ‘illness forecast’ estimating when they will get better and how contagious they might be.

Does Having Braids Make You A ‘Wifey’ Material? | My Male Friend Says YES!

Natural Hair1

Somewhere last week during a chat with a male friend of mine, a very pretty girl with simple but very beautiful braids walked pass. My friend instantly remarked that such a lady would be a very good “wifey” material.  I found it very interesting that he could establish this by just her hairstyle.

I asked to know the reason for this point of view; and surprisingly I was told having braids were a sure sign of modesty.

My friend explained further that from his experience, girls who had braids, instead of the very expensive Brazilian weaves, were less likely to drain your bank account if you date them. According to my friend, after learning from past experiences, he tries as much as possible to avoid approaching girls with unnecessary long weave, long nails, artificial eyelashes and excessive make up.

I took a moment to decipher all he said, and to also analyze if there was any truth hiding somewhere. I do agree with him that braids makes one look very simple and put together but I also believe that no woman should be judged based on the type of hairstyle she decides wear.

The girl you see rocking braids today could very well be wearing bundles of 28 inches Brazilian hair at another time. There surely is more to a woman that what she puts on her head.
