Coup In Burundi To Oust President Who Tried To Force A Third Term Run

They’re a rarity these days but under the most extreme circumstances a coup d’état would spring up and it seems that’s the case in Burundi.

President Pierre Nkurunziza announced he would be running for a third term, despite the constitution limiting the President to two terms. It sparked off series of protests that led to the death of 20 people with over 200 injured in clashes with police.

Amidst all this, the Burundian army have announced a coup to take over running of the country. The President was in Tanzania for a regional summit when the announcement was made. General Godfroid Niyombare, a former close ally of the President who was fired as Intelligence chief in February, led the coup.

Religious extremism as we can see doesn’t only affect non religious people or atheists, but more often than not members of even the same religion but under a different sect would fall under these attacks.

So when one talks about the dangers of religion, it would be dangerous to think the consequences only apply to outsiders. Often the oppression religion wroughts falls more on its adherents, especially women and children.

Gunmen on motorbikes attacked a bus in the Pakistani city of Karachi, which was carrying members of a Shiite sect. In the Sunni dominated Pakistan, Shiites often come under attacks, despite the fact that they’re all Muslims.

27th February, 31st March, and now 12th May. These aren’t a random collection of dates, but three dates since the start of the year that GC has reported about a secular Bangladeshi blogger critical of Islam who has been butchered to death in their country.

Ananta Bijoy Das was attacked by masked men with machetes in Sylhet on his way to work. Das was a regular columnist for Mukto-Mona, the Bangladesh free thinking blog which is often highly critical of Islam.

Four masked men attacked him, hacking him to death with cleavers and machetes, said Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Kamrul Ahsan, according to CNN.

The founder and editor of Mukto-Mona, Avijit Roy was the first victim this year. He was also hacked to death when returning from a function, whilst with his wife who luckily survived the incident.

All this people have done is write about the vices of religion, one of which is the needless violence against unbelievers, which somehow just triggers more attacks.

Some bosses will not even buy you a Christmas card but more than 6,000 employees of Tiens Group — a Chinese conglomerate — were given the VIP treatment on an all expenses paid trip to France to celebrate the company’s 20th birthday.

This is the sort of company you can die for and know that you did something good. Considering how greedy most businesses are these days, this has come as a big news—and you don’t want to know the cost. It’s estimated that the group will spend $15 million during their visit and France is seen to reap up to $20 million in total economic benefits.

The risk people go through just to escape Africa is really shocking—a clear indication that people would rather die trying than live on the continent which is somewhat become a land of failure.

According to Spanish police, an eight-year-old boy has been smuggled into Spain from Morocco inside a suitcase. The boy, Abou, was found inside the case being carried by a 19-year-old woman into Ceuta, a Spanish enclave next to Morocco, on Thursday.

When police opened the case, they found the boy in a “terrible state”, a spokesman for the Guardia Civil told AFP.

We have this unfortunate trend in Africa now where people are not content with their natural dark colour, so they use creams and other methods to look like the white people they claim not to like.

Even some of our celebrities are not exempt from this. Anyway, over in Cote d’Ivoire they are doing something about this trend. According to a report on the BBC, their health ministry have banned skin whitening creams due to health concerns.

Nebraska Woman Sues All Gays in The World On Behalf Of ‘God And His Son Jesus Christ’

There are many reasons why anyone would not like religion. However, more than any other reason, the intolerance it breeds is the most sickening one.

This intolerance, honed by centuries of indoctrination and sanctioned by ‘Holy Books’, is why someone would blow up people of other religions, or use force on people whose world view does not align with theirs.

A good example of this intolerance is that exhibited by this Nebraska woman, 66 year old Sylvia Ann Driskell. She has filed a suit in the US District Court of Omaha, claiming to be an ambassador for the plaintiffs, God and his son Jesus Christ.

In the suit, officially entered as ‘Driskell vs homosexuals’; she is suing all homosexuals for breaking ‘religious and moral laws’.

In a rambling, handwritten seven page petition, Driskell quotes Bible passages to show homosexuality is a sin, and claims that homosexuals know they are living in sin.

“Homosexuality is a sin and they the homosexuals know it is a sin to live a life of homosexuality. Why else would they have been hiding in the closet?

You would think at this point people would have wised up to the machinations of some of these so-called men of God. But we love refusing to think, especially when religion is involved.

A Lagos man is in dire financial straits after his pastor made away with N10m he gave to him for prayers. The man went for a bank loan to start a business but through some very elaborate scheming his pastor was able to swindle him out of it.

PM News reports that Lagos police have declared Timothy Gabriel, a preacher from Lagos, a wanted man. He is wanted for allegedly swindling one of his church members out of N10m.

The member is said to have told his pastor that he intended to go for a bank loan for some business deals. The pastor prayed for him to be successful in getting the loan, and he managed to get it.
