Celebrity Instagram & Twit Pics of the Week: Jackie Appiah, Eazzy, Nadia Buari, Becca, Efya, John Dumelo, Menaye Donkor & Others

Eazzy
Eazzy

Eazzy has been rocking a new short hair and even though we do not REALLY like it—she says, she is feeling it. For us out here, the long hair style sits well with Eazzy and because we’ve known her more with that, we seem to like her that way.

Becca and Efya have been putting their figures on blast, except that one has something more enticing to show us and the other needs to work that body out if she wants to go into a bodycon.

Joselyn Dumas’ Social Media Cholera Campaign | A Futile Effort with No Sense of Practicality to a Serious Problem?

Joselyn Dumas
Joselyn Dumas Cholera campaign

Dear Chris-Vincent,

The ALS ice bucket challenge was meant to be a simple and fun way of raising awareness for a debilitating and terminal illness. Ever since the campaign started, a lot of money and awareness has been raised for Lou Gehrig’s disease.  The ALS research center at Johns Hopkins University has reported over 80% increase in its endowments. We all hope to hear of a cure for this debilitating and terminal illness soon.

The purpose of the challenge was to raise awareness and MONEY for ALS research. That’s exactly what the challenge has accomplished. Yes, a lot of people have used the challenge as nothing but a popularity stunt, but it does not withhold the fact a lot more people know about ALS now than they did a month ago.

Back in our neck of the woods, things are completely different. All over Instagram, countless of Ghanaian celebrities have uploaded pictures of videos of themselves, pouring buckets of ice cold water on themselves. A lot of these local champions wear weaves. I always thought the number rule for wearing weave was: Never get it wet! I guess that’s beside the point. After pouring ice cold water on themselves, these “celebrities” claim they plan on donating money to a local NGO in Ghana because there is NO ALS society in Ghana-as if we did not know that already.  As much as I’d like to congratulate them for being abreast with current affairs and helping fight a good cause, I cannot pretend. How many of these local champions support a local charity?

Our love of everything Western is shameful and crippling.  Joselyn Dumas took to twitter to bash her fellow stars for their “ignorance.” A lot of people were proud of her. These same people who did not agree with Ama K Abebrese’s skin bleaching campaign, but who am I to judge?!

Joselyn’s campaign, although a good start, is an impractical solution to a serious problem. Cholera is caused by filth! Everywhere you look, our gutters are filled with garbage and feces. Instead of starting a campaign where individuals post pictures of themselves with their mouths covered, and the inscription, “I’d rather starve than eat contaminated food.” How about I suggest something practical? CLEAN THE FILTH AROUND YOU.

Some of our favourite celebrities have shared various out and about photos of themselves—and Yvonne Okoro in particular shared an interesting video.

Few years down the line after being BASHED on GhanaCelebrities.Com for that FAKE ACCENT, Yvonne Okoro seems to have taken over from Nadia Buari as our British born American celebrity, living in Thailand, worked in Australia, married to a half Chinese and half Japanese–therefore with such a messed up accent which she continues to proudly put out there…

It sad how our celebrities are everything in this world but themselves…

Joselyn Dumas & Irene Logan SLAM African Celebrities Taking Up the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge

Joselyn Dumas1

Thinking alongside Chris-Vincent’s article which questions the rationale behind the actions of the various African Celebrities who have taken on the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge when they are not donating any money to the cause—and when we have other pressing needs in Africa, Ghanaian actress Joselyn Dumas and singer-Irene Logan have also spoken out…

Joselyn Dumas took to twitter to say, we have several pressing needs in Africa but our celebrities have decided to jump on the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge, forgetting what our true problems are. She mentioned Malaria, Ebola and others as more serious and close to home than ASL.

In fact, she challenged her social media users who did not agree with her message to show her one person who had died instantly of ALS in Africa nd she will show them thousands dying of Malaria each day.

See her tweets below…

Singer-Irene Logan also had something to say about the way some Ghanaian Celebrities have taken charge of the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge. See what she wrote below…

Who Takes Over From Jackie Appiah? | Christabel Ekeh, Joselyn Dumas, Kafui Danku or WHO?

blank
Jackie Appiah and Director-Shirley Frimpong Manso

I was sent a link to a Hollywood Reporter article which looked at how Hollywood is struggling to find the next Denzel Washington (a major black movie star), now that Denzel is being faded out as a result of old age.

I couldn’t miss the connection and the fact that the Ghanaian Movie Industry is somewhat in the same pickle, although caused by a different element. While Denzel Washington, 59 is at the edge of dropping from the big roles as the only standing black actor due to old age, Will Smith, 45 and Eddie Murphy, 53 cannot be said to be perfect stand-in candidates considering their ages too, the article noted.

Jackie Appiah and Denzel Washington may not have anything in common, except that they can both call themselves actors—even with that, one acts for a third world movie industry which struggles to sell its movies to its own people, while the other is a box office champion with an undisputed international status.

The truth is; Jackie Appiah has held the Ghanaian Movie Industry together with her face and acting (even if we find her acting substandard) for many years—and calling her the true face of the contemporary Ghana Movie Industry would not be a far-fetched rank. Perhaps, she is the most bankable Ghanaian actress—even as of today.

I do not have the exact total number of awards she has to her name but I am yet to meet anyone who will disagree with me that she holds more awards than that of any two of her colleagues put together. She has done it all—-from the strict VCD days to the booming era of movie premieres that took over the capital cities, Jackie Appiah was the poster girl.

There was a time most film-makers couldn’t imagine taking the risk of shooting a movie without having her as their lead—not simply because she was exceptionally good but because, she brought in the sales and having her face on your movie guaranteed a smile to the bank.

Though she could not score any great point with her brand, she remains the strongest, well-kept and untainted Ghanaian Movie star brand we’ve seen in recent times—and she has enjoyed the spark of glamour more than even those who rejuvenated the industry she later became part of…

VIDEO: Yvonne Nelson is Still Defending Her BLEACHED Skin | Are We Not Over This?

Yvonne Nelson
Yvonne Nelson

We have had enough of Yvonne Nelson’s bleaching and her counter claims of not bleaching talks….And yet, she continues to discuss this.

Some of us have made our minds up that home-girl has changed her complexion and no level of discrediting can change this.

Someone who recently worked with Yvonne Nelson on set had to this to say “Chris, I know and saw that Yvonne Nelson has tampered with her complexion but can you guys give her other side a little attention instead of her complexion”.

All the same, Joselyn Dumas sat down with Yvonne Nelson recently for her TV show “@ home with Joselyn Dumas” and as usual, the bleaching talk came flying through.

Yvonne is still hiding behind that defensive wall—when most of us have given up on her complexion. At the end of the day, it is her goddam business—just that we won’t be easily deceived.

I watched the video and the only question I asked myself is;  so Yvonne Nelson is happy with how she looks huh?

Joselyn Dumas Does Not KNOW About Being a ‘Fashion Ambassador for the Africa Park Show in South Africa’ | Organizers Are in Breach of Her Rights of Publicity

Joselyn-Dumas-1
Joselyn Dumas

Several African celebrities have in the past faced diatribes from their fans for failing to appear at events which they’ve been advertised as guests—when in fact, these celebrities did not even know or had no appearance contract with organizers of such events.

Ghanaian actress/TV personality-Joselyn Dumas has been advertised through several online publications as a Fashion Ambassador for an upcoming event-Africa Park Show to be held in South Africa, starting 19th September to 21st September, 2014—but GhanaCelebrities.Com has gathered; Joselyn Dumas has not been booked for the above appearance.

Speaking to Joselyn Dumas, she mentioned that the organizers made contact with her team to have her at their event but negotiations seems to have failed or have not been concluded. It is therefore shocking that the organizers have proceeded without her consent or any sort of enforceable agreement to use her name in their advertisement as a Fashion Ambassador for their event.

If nothing at all, Joselyn Dumas is worried about the total disrespect the organizers have accorded her brand and their attempt to gain financially by using her face and name in their advertisements, a clear breach of her Rights of publicity.

What most Event organizers do not recognise in Africa is, they can be sued for using someone else’s name, likeness, or other personal attributes without permission for an exploitative purpose—just like the above.

Sandra Ankobiah & Joselyn Dumas in Petty ‘Fight’?

Razz Newspaper
Razz Newspaper

Sandra Ankobiah has established herself as an attention seeking individual who rides on the fame of others, to stay relevant—and attack others to stay in the news, thinking that makes her the shizzle…

She shot to fame as Yvonne Nelson’s handbag, following the actress everywhere—including when she wanted to poop.

At the time, Yvonne Okoro and Yvonne Nelson were good friends but their friendship could not survive the competition, the gossip and the jealousy so the two fell apart. After the famous breakup, Sandra Ankobiah maintained her position as Yvonne Nelson’s side kick—but only for a while.

She changed gears after she reportedly got into a hot argument with Yvonne Nelson. She quickly moved on, this time, she has become Yvonne Okoro’s butt-licker, fighting wars for Okoro and siding with the actress even when it is obvious that Yvonne Okoro is wrong.

According to a report by Razz Newspaper, the same Sandra Ankbobiah has jumped onto the neck of beautiful actress/TV personality-Joselyn Dumas, gossiping and backstabbing her over what God only knows…Yvonne Okoro and Joselyn Dumas have not been spotted together for a long time and I wouldn’t be shocked if the two are living on a battle field.

If that is the case, then that should explain why Sandra Ankobiah is taking a hit at Joselyn Dumas—still fighting her madam’s war for her.

Apparently, there is a growing tension between Sandra Ankobiah and Joselyn Dumas and Razz Newspaper has the inside gist…

What Sandra probably forgets all the time is that, Ghana is too damn small and the people you keep stabbing others with, will definitely out you…

Read below for what Razz Newspaper which comes out every Wednesday had to say…

line

In the world of show business, there always exist issues of in-fighting, bickering, back-biting, gossip, hatred and envy amongst the main players especially the female entertainers.

Over the years, there have been reports of rift between female Ghanaian celebrities including the documented squabbles between Jackie Appiah and Nadia Buari, Yvonne Nelson and Jackie Appiah as well as reported fall-out between the likes of Jocelyn Dumas and Yvonne Okoro and of course, the famous wrangle between ‘frenemies’ Sandra Ankobiah and Yvonne Nelson.

DID SHE REALLY SAY THAT: Joselyn Dumas Says She Has ‘No Problem Having Sex With a Friend’

Joselyn Dumas

Some will say certain modern Ghanaian women are becoming liberal and others will say, they are becoming cheap—depending on where you sit on the throne…

Last Friday, actress/TV personality-Josselyn Dumas joined a host of others on Joy Fm to discuss the topic “can a man and a woman be just friends”.

Joselyn is reported on Joy Fm to have said that, “[as friends] sometimes sex could be needed to test if a relationship is possible”.

She added that, “I think that when there is a tag in a relationship, it becomes a problem, then the expectations are quiet high, but when you have a friend with benefits you see how it goes, if it goes well, and we eventually decides that we are going to take it a step further, Kudos, but once this is my boyfriend, this is my girlfriend or am married, there is that pressure, I don’t personally like that, so I will have a friend with benefit”.

Last week, actress Yvonne Nelson joined the many instagram users who pose in bathrooms/restrooms to take sexy shots—and to be frank, she was looking hot under that blond weave.

Jackie Appiah and Joselyn Dumas also attended the 2014 AMAA in Nigeria and they all shared photos—to show their fans what they rocked!

Sandra Ankobiah who is currently in  USA shared a photo from her hotel room and that single picture fetched her more that she probably bargained for…

Some of our favourite celebrities who rank well in the rim of beauty have turned today into a CLOSE SHOT day, taking photos of their faces—so we can see their wrinkle-less faces or admire the features that make them sexy…

Yvonne Okoro shared a shot of her face with a message which suggests that she is working on a commercial in Nigeria—and to be frank, her face looks good. Except that, she still has her signature long eye lashes on—and we are waiting for a day that she will forget them.

Yvonne Nelson also shared a close shot and the moment she posted the photo, the first person who commented said ‘Cocoa Butter’, something we thought was funny.

Confidence Haugen also posted a make free photo—showing the little facial mark she has. Joselyn Dumas and Becca also posted close shots of their faces, which seem filtered.

LOVE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT premiere

Multiple award-winning film-maker-Shirley Frimpong Manso and her Sparrow Productions team premiered their latest movie-LOVE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT few days ago at the National Theatre in Accra—and apart from the fact that the premiere was fully packed, patrons had a lot of great things to say about the movie.

I watched the movie over the weekend and wrote in my review that “though the theme of the script is set on ‘HIV/AIDS’, the film brilliantly tells the story in such a way that, it does not only steal the best part of your emotions—and it doesn’t do so by invoking ‘sorrowfulness’, but by making you consider the fact that there is unimaginable value in being self-conscious when it comes to sex”.

Surely, it wasn’t just me who noticed the excellence embedded in the production and how brilliant the film tackles the social issue of HIV/AIDS.

My Thoughts on Shirley Frimpong Manso’s New Movie-LOVE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT | A Failed Or Successful Attempt at Telling the HIV/AIDS Story?

Love or Something Like That111
Shirley Frimpong Manso’s New Movie-Love or Something Like That

After my usual weekend Kung-fu movie, I had the opportunity to watch the new Shirley Frimpong Manso movie-LOVE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT and I will start by saying; that it’s a significant story of life that is well tackled.

I am not a keen proponent of the assumption that every story has been told—but I certainly believe that, a story is only good when the storyteller is exceptionally passionate about the subject matter and has priceless cause of telling that particular story—which is to make a realistic impact.

I have long predicted and in a way hoped for a change in the improbable manner the African HIV/AIDS story has been told by many African film-makers. Interestingly, Shirley Frimpong Manso has taken up the challenge to tell the story in a way that is pulsing to the heart—and captivating to the mind in her latest movie-LOVE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

I am yet to meet a single person who is not a party to the general consensus that education on HIV/AIDS in Africa, though has improved over the years, continues to be largely ineffective—and apart from blaming certain religious teachings such as “Aids is bad but not as bad as the use of condoms” for the ineffective outreach, the architecture employed for the purpose of mass education on this diabolical disease seems not to be working.

Many movies and documentaries have taken up the subject of creating HIV/AIDS awareness and in doing so; have failed to make impact with their messages simply because of the manner in which the stories are told—without substantially taking into consideration the societal changes and mannerisms that cannot be ignored in order to bring the story to the hearts of the receivers.

The Storyline & the Pace

Though the theme of the script is set on ‘HIV/AIDS’, the film brilliantly tells the story in such a way that, it does not only steal the best part of your emotions—and it doesn’t do so by invoking ‘sorrowfulness’, but by making you consider the fact that there is unimaginable value in being self conscious when it comes to sex.

Just like most well put together HIV/AIDS stories or films which take the bold approach into exploring the issues of life-threatening diseases like Cancer, the film is filled with emotions. In fact, the film which at large is themed on HIV/AIDS faintly deals with Cancer, without necessarily losing sequence and direction.

I’ve seen several African film-makers and even those outside Africa taking up the HIV/AIDS story from different angels and worldview, but this knocks me at home and presents a far better realistic way of how events unfold when the unwanted subject of HIV/AIDS finds its way into an African marriage/relationship.

Without giving much away, I must say the film starts on a very slow note—which I believe was deliberately set to pull viewers into seeing the existing love, affection and sense of belonging that existed between John Dumelo’s character-Mr Walker and his wife-Joselyn Dumas (Kwarley Mettle).

Soon as the foundation of love and bond between the above two are visibly established, the film begins to speed up—but not as much as I would have preferred. Surely, watching the movie immediately after a Kung-fu movie may have caused a heightened adrenaline, probably, the reason why I found it slow.

Music

It is obvious Shirley Frimpong Manso and her team understood the nature and emotions involved in the story being told. Sparrow Productions’ films have always made good use of a collection of African songs but mostly, these songs compliment scenes or add that extra bit of entertainment to the movies while pulling back your attention.

However, the songs used in LOVE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT went beyond the usual, the songs stabilized the emotionally filled story—-bumping up the pace and dropping in the needed energy intermittently.

I’m not the type to hear a track and jump up to dance but even though I was fully submerged in the ‘rough emotional journey’ the film was taking me, when the songs which were from the likes of Raquel, Okyeame Kwame and Efya were dropped, I caught myself immersed in the music—for a minute, and then the story hits back to the emotion.

To me, the interruption of the emotional ‘downs’ by these carefully selected songs make the viewer stay put as a viewer and not become a sympathiser, thereby, taking in the lessons and education/awareness the story is creating. If that is what the film-makers wanted to do, then it was perfectly achieved. If that wasn’t it—-I would proudly say, so was the effect for me.

Acting

When you have A-listers like John Dumelo, Joselyn Dumas and OC Ukeje championing a story and delivering their lines, backed by many years of experience under the directorship of a multiple-award winning director-Shirley Frimpong Manso, you should not expect less—because you won’t even get that if you wished for it.

The acting was outstanding—and I say this because none of the scenes throws a taint at the story, which would make you question any part of the delivery.

When emotions were involved, Joselyn Dumas was great at showing that, and it could just be that she was living her role—as she seems naturally emotional.
