No MC For Ghana Music Awards?

blank

Tick tock, tick tock as the clock moves, the D-day for the Ghana Music Awards draws closer and closer.

With less than ten days for the main event at the over six thousand capacity giant Dome at the Accra International Conference Centre, nobody has been named yet, to MC for the biggest entertainment show on the nation’s calendar.

The Ghana Music Awards, which has been running consistently for the past eleven years now, had Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show host, Kwami Sefa Kayi (Chairman), as the MC for the first eight years of the event ( from 1999-2007). However, Charter House, organizers of the event changed the MC in 2008 “experimented” with Samini and Joy Fm’s “Lunch Time Rhythms” host Doreeh Andoh as MCs.

Yvonne Nelson
Yvonne Nelson

I am always upset and disappointed when it comes to the kind of lies celebrities put in the media for their fans. Do you remember my write up when Yvonne Nelson bragged that she bought her dress for the premiere of  the  movie “Princess Bride” at a cost of 2550 Euros ?

Yes, I knew home girl was lying and was trying to hype her super ego by attaching some  sky-scraping price to that cheap attire she wore that night. (Read that article and check the dress from here)

Joshua Clottey
Joshua Clottey

Leading Ghanaian boxer, Joshua Clottey, has denied allegations that he caused the failure of the relationship between him and mother of his only daughter.

According to him, he is not one of those celebrities who open their doors for every woman, just because they want to have their way. Joshua said the collapse of his marriage was due to this mother-in-law and stressed that he should not be blamed for having a child without a wife.

The boxer, who lost his last fight against Manny Pacquiao, made the comments during an encounter with a section of Ghana’s local press at a small welcome party organized on his behalf by Ruff ‘N’ Smooth, a hip life duo, at Bola Ray’s Empire Entertainment.

Flash Back: Ghollywood & Nollywood,Give Us Some Value For Our “Damn” Money

blank

I am a big fan of both Nigeria and Ghana Movies especially the former. Lately, I have sworn off Ghanaian and Nigerian movies and this is because I am tired of the same ol’ same ol’,. I’m certain a lot of you agree with me that, it’s time for a change in the movie industry. Aren’t we tired of seeing the same actresses and actors in Ghanaian and Nigerian movies?

When was the last time you saw a Ghanaian movie that didn’t have Nadia Buari,Van Vicker, Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, Yvvonne Nelson or Agya Koo in it. A Nigerian movie that didn’t have Ramsey Noah, Mercy Johnson, Ini Edo, Jim Ikye Genevieve Nnaji or Rita Dominic. Are those the only actresses and actors we have in Ghana and Nigeria? It’s always the same faces, almost same storylines and movie titles that have nothing to do with the storyline.

Genevieve Nnaji & Jackie Appiah: Who Is Your Pick?

blank

These two ladies are very beautiful and well structured. They have the package, the beauty and the talent to act. I’m sure you will agree with me if you’ve seen any of their movies.

Genevieve has been in the film industry for a very long time and she is good at what she does. Guess experience has even made her better. She is one of my favorites African actresses. But lately I think there is something about her that is missing.  She used to shine in very movie she featured.

However, the spark we used to see to me is disappearing slowly. Nevertheless she is still good.

Can Ghana Music Award Be Bought? Part 1

blank

As the Ghana Music Awards 2010 draws closer, the nation’s anticipation has increased with regards to the artists who are going to be the night’s big winners.

Although the awards are meant to celebrate excellence within the Ghanaian music industry, some things just don’t seem as accurate as they ought to be. Case in point- how can artist win ‘Most Popular Song of the Year,’ but yet fail to win for ‘Hiplife Song of the Year’? Perhaps there are two separate groups that select the nominees for these two categories.

With inaccuracies such as these surrounding the awards, now is the time for the GMAs committee to reconsider the continue usage of Charter House as the organisers of the event. Following ten years of organisation, surely each year should bring an addition of progress. However, these inaccuracies threaten to overshadow the true purpose of the GMAs- celebrating the success of Ghanaian musicians.

Disco Lights At National Theatre And Conference Centre

blank
Electricity Company of Ghana

It looks like event organizers do not fear ‘rains’ messing their programmes anymore. These days all the entertainment shows in Accra end with one thing in common; LIGHTS OFF. If a show doesn’t end unceremoniously because of incessant power cuts, it will end amidst power on and off for several times.

The outdooring of Zigi at the Aphrodisiac Night Club in Accra, the launch of hip life rap trio V.I.P. (Vision In Progress) new album at the Boomerang Night Club and pre-Val’s Day Bash with Obrafour & Tema’s Finest at Groove Control Night Club in Tema were all disturbed by unexpected light offs.

The national premiere centres, National Theatre and Accra International Conference Centre were on Saturday and Sunday turned into a night clubs, where the lights went off and on several times like the lighting we have in night clubs locally referred to as ‘disco’ lights.

Bleaching: Are Light-Skinned Entertainers Putting Dark-Skinned Ones In The Shade?

blank

The issue of bleaching is nothing new in African societies, with Ghana being no different. In this day and age, being light-skinned is perceived as an instant definition of beauty. Although it may be easy to criticise people who succumb to the pressures of bleaching, one must also consider the perceptions, ideologies, and the imageries within our contemporary society which leaves some to assume that being light-skinned is the way to go.

With a substantial amount of media images depicting light-skinned women in various glamorous positions, it is no wonder that the consumers of these media images are left with the perception that being light-skinned is more attractive than being dark-skinned. It is not only the ordinary woman (or the ordinary man in some cases) who is vulnerable to the pressures of skin bleaching.
