Exclusive Interview With Agnes Ntow – 2010 Miss Ghana USA Contestant

blankGhanaCelebrities.com was recently granted an exclusive interview with 2010 Miss Ghana USA Contestant, Agnes Ntow.  We took this opportunity to ask Agnes 10 questions that we thought our readers would most want to know.

Girls interested in entering the pageant business, take note from this beautiful young lady. Good luck Agnes in all your ventures and on the upcoming contest, we will definitely be routing for you!

GhanaCelebrities.com: How did you get started in the pageant business, what or who influenced you to make such a decision?

Agnes Ntow: I’ve always been interested in pageants since I was a little girl. Whenever Miss America or Miss Universe would come on, my sisters and I would pick three girls who we wanted to be and acted out the pageants. But I didn’t consider entering one until my sophomore year in college. I was in a majoring in a subject that I had no interest in and was looking for a change, something fun and exciting.

So one day, I googled pageants for African Americans and googled pageants for African women, and Miss Africa USA came up. My eyes grew big because I couldn’t believe it. I researched it and wanted to audition for the pageant that same year. I later changed my mind and decided to finish school first before auditioning. I completed school officially in August. I remember taking my last final August 6th and immediately flying to Atlanta August 8.

GhanaCelebrities.com:  Are there any other projects that you are working on at this time besides the African USA Pageant? Any community service activities or other business ventures?

Agnes Ntow: I’m ALWAYS working on projects. Each time I am about to complete one, another project comes up and it keeps me busy, but I love that. Currently I am working on two documentaries. I hope one will be completed by the summer of next year and the other to be completed a year later.

I have a radio show called “Passport to a World’s View” which airs each Saturday from 2pm-4pm central time. I am working on fundraising ideas for my platform which is to help eradicate child trafficking and prostitution in Ghana and mentoring teenage African and African American girls through our program Phenomenal Woman.

GhanaCelebrities.com: What are your favorite pastimes? What do you like to do for relaxation or travel? Where is your favorite place to shop?

Agnes Ntow: My favorite pastimes: Sleep overs (slumber parties) and waking up Saturday mornings to watch cartoons in my pj’s with my sisters and cousins. When I want to relax I do one or all three of these things: a) read my bible b)go to my room, close the door, turn off all technological devices except my Ipod or radio and listen to music.

I love relaxing to neo-soul, smooth jazz, or slow jams and some artists I love to listen to are: Luther Vandross, Alicia Keys, India Arie, Boyz to Men, Sade, Jill Scott, Musiq and Lauryn Hill.

c) Going to the lake either at sunrise or sunset and enjoying the breeze.

My favorite place to shop is any shoe store especially DSW, Foot Locker, Akira. I LOVE SHOES!!! I usually pick my shoes first, followed by outfit.

GhanaCelebrities.com: What are your Ghanaian favourite: food, music, entertainment?

Agnes Ntow: My favorite Ghanaian food is Waakye and peanut butter soup with anything except Waakye. You cannot combine Waakye and peanut butter soup together, that’s not a good combination.

My favorite Ghanaian musician: I really like them all but the ones who get constant replay on my ipod or show are: Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Reezon, M.ainfest, Wanlov the Kublour, Mensa, Blitz the Ambassador, Batman Samini. I think for now my song for the summer is Swagger by Ruff and Smooth and My Lady by Jay Ghartey. I LOVE THEM.

Entertainment: My favorite Ghanaian actors: Vincent McCauley Jr., Crystal Tahir, and Idris Elba.

GhanaCelebrities.com: Who is your biggest supporter?

Agnes Ntow: My biggest supporter: my family. They are my backbone.

GhanaCelebrities.com:  What do you think are the biggest challenges our country’s young people face today?

Agnes Ntow: I believe that the biggest challenge the young people in Ghana face is the lack of opportunity. Many are bright and talented but without adequate resources, they become discouraged to utilize their gifts. But this challenge isn’t the fault of the youth but rather the elders and those like myself. Many of us acquire our degrees abroad and do not go back home to help develop our country; so that we too can create the same or better opportunities as those in the west.

GhanaCelebrities.com:  If you won this pageant, how would you use your title to benefit the country you’re representing: Ghana?

Agnes Ntow: If I win the Miss Africa USA title, I will use the title to bring awareness to this issue and help create opportunities for the youth in Ghana. As Miss Ghana USA I am working on eradicating child trafficking and prostitution. I believe the best way to eradicate the issue is to tackle its grassroots which are poverty and lack of education.

GhanaCelebrities.com: Who is your biggest role model and why?

Agnes Ntow: My biggest role model are my parents because without them I wouldn’t be who I am today. My parents are the hardest working people I know and to be in the presence of such people creates an ever-lasting impression, one to be imitated.

GhanaCelebrities.com:  What is African beauty to you?

Agnes Ntow: African beauty is appreciating the way God created each one of us. African beauty is simple and natural and doesn’t create a false illusion.

GhanaCelebrities.com: What would you want GhanaCelebrities.com readers to know about you?

Agnes Ntow: 10. I live by 4 L’s: LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH OUT LOUD
