The SMG (Sputnic Music Group) studios in Atlanta, Georgia was the venue for a celebrity mini-party which included the likes of Abdul Salaam Mumuni of Venus Films Production fame, Mr Abodam aka Kwaw Kese, and Ghana’s screen idol Majid Michel, who declared, “I’m just here to spend quality time with my brothers.”
The owner of the SMG studios is a Ghanaian producer and engineer named Sputnic. Currently blowing up the producing scene in the USA hip-hop circuit, he’s not as well known in Ghana so therefore, I think it is time for a brief introduction.
Sputnic has worked with a variety of A-List music artists including the likes of Akon, Teddy Riley, T.I., Wyclef Jean, Outkast, Jermaine Dupri, Dallas Austin and many more.
A Music Technology and Film graduate of the New York University, Sputnic is a humble and laidback individual.
“I’m the brain behind the scenes- I just make the artist shine,” he stated in relation to his superstar collaborations.
As a result of his success in the USA, Ghana’s most talented artists are clamouring to work with him. Kwaw Kese commented, “I have always wanted to work with Sputnic but that brother has a crazy schedule- I’ve been in Atlanta for a month just waiting to get in the studio with him, but it’s all worth it. We’re about to hit you with some real heat from Sputnic Productions/SMG. I can’t wait for y’all to hear it.”
Not content with being in just the music industry, Sputnic is also eyeing up a move in to the film industry. He announced, “We’re working on multiple movie projects to take African movies to a new height…just be ready for greatness.”
Majid supported his statement by adding, “We will be taking Ghanaian/African movies to places not yet seen.”
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen- the Ghanaian/African movie industry is reaching for the stars, courtesy of Majid Michel, Sputnic, and their homeboys.
