Have you been faced with the question why various talented musicians and movie stars from Ghana are unable to achieve their world success dreams? Undoubtedly, most of our stars have the talent to get them there but their international success is curtailed by their “bootleg” managers and prs’.
After years of dealing with celebrities in several arts, one thing they all have in common is managers and Prs’. It is sometimes shocking that after one “shady” movie or a good for nothing song to a person’s name, the first thing that comes into such an individual’s mind is to acquire a manager or PR.
This is widely acceptable in the world of celebrities and it depicts professionalism. But only when individuals with some managerial or Pr skills and knowledge are brought into play. Not when family members and old time friends with absolute nothing to offer are employed. Such persons should rather be butlers if they insist on sticking along; because they muddle the career of their victims as managers.
It is worth noting that, some of these persons managing our celebrities themselves need to be managed in various ways. The attitude, English, Communication and public relation skills of most of these managers are ridiculous. To some of us, these “bootleg” managers are just “parasiting” on the little earnings of these stars without offering them anything worthy of improving their careers. When will these stars shine their eyes?
A widespread practice among these managers is the “absurd level of bureaucracy” and conflicts they put our stars in when it comes to their fans, media houses, producers and other important individuals in the industry. To reach various Ghanaian celebrities surrounded by these managers is very knotty, full of drama and “bullshiting” to the extent that any professional will give up.
The success of musicians or movie stars all over the world is deeply embedded in the works of their managers and Prs’ in putting them actively out there in the media (promotion) , securing various deals and helping to bring them closer to their fans.
It is true that talents are important, but it is useless as a rotten pawpaw if it is not well marketed and brought to light. It is high time our celebrities realize the “crucial roles” their so called managers are playing in their downfall.
True talk. Most of these managers cannot even speak english or have no links in an industry they claim to be managing someone in.
Also, they forget that the media is a powerful tool in making and unmaking stars so instead of being friends with media houses, they rather turn to fight them and become their enemies. If this continues, our stars will only remain in Kumasi and Accra and that is it.

Well said Chris-Vincent, we need people like you to tell it as it is to those so called managers. The stars also have to get some sense and look for quality and good managers.
People who can help them and take them to places. People will some skills and can do attitude.
Once again, I feel the need to mention training/regulated schoooling specifically for Agents/Managers. If we are to prevent this sort of “I just feel into managing suddenly” syndrom. Perhpas only lawyers in Ghana have the right to become managers/agents, is that a wrong assumption? It would be good for actors/musicians to examine the careers of famous Africans like Mama Africa the late Miriam Makeba, who was her manager…Angelique Kidjo who was her manager in the begining stages of her career…..Perhaps Agents should look to sports Agents of Ghana for direction, who were the agents of Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari……as I search my memory bank, I realy can’t think of one African born actor/actrees who started in an African film industry and went global with it….I wanna say the lead from the film Sarafina but I don’t even know her name, is she even still acting, so sad, perhaps Omar Sherif but he’s of my grandparents generation and I think he’s only done Lawrence of Arabia…..Great Article and worth a followup.

The Manager facilitates political democracy in America in Ghana and not the personal political democracy in Ghana, and ‘the difference. If I search for singer or actor investment authority ‘of Ghana all say NO. All America wants to control its own state, against its own policy and against his government. It ‘s all for America and not for the gain of Ghana. I remember that for investment and ‘significant contact with those who are not’ possible escape in another state. With this, ‘I did not say that the work must be done where the gain and’ very high as in America.
Good article,but the sad part about all of this is the fact that we sit here and say managers are important however we fail to recognize their importance.First of all no one has the right to contact a celebrity directly.But in Ghana when people hear that a celebrity has a manager they get angry and think the person is even arrogant to ask them to call their manager.Even worse is the way you so called journalist insist on contacting the celebrities directly .This isn’t done anywhere unless the celebrity in question wants to.Any press release is done through the PR.So my question is are you people prepared to deal with the professionalism of some of these managers?Because from where I sit I DOUBT IT.
if you really want you to understand, you have to do with the industry who has a friend who provides the money to Nigeria to Ghana and weapons. And ‘the police many times has supplied weapons to the military or the other. And ‘work. What works for their industry? and ‘this is the right friend to understand and say I want peace and good for everyone. If not ‘there’ imprisonment as always.
most of them comes from our own stars coz they try to behave someway when they thimk they are becoming popular doing all sort of thing. fine you can take a manager but is your own input and some ideas you will put in.coming to our producers some are cheats and our stars also get into different behaviours to bring them down.i do agree with you but please our stars are also the main coz of their own downfall.
God help Ghana. we have all the resources and talents but we can’t manage them to the full.
