Can It Be Jealousy: Why Is Okyeame Quophi Still Bitter Over The Split With Okyeame Kwame?

Okyeame Quophi
Okyeame Quophi

When Obrafour released his ‘Asem Beba Dabi’ track which has the controversial track ‘Kaseibo’, a direct dissing track to the rap doctor Okyeame Kwame, I managed to do a survey and realized that, the track received more attention and air play from Okyeame Quophi, Kwame’s former partner in the rap duo Akyeame.

I said to myself, why should Quophi, a presenter on Hitz FM who was formerly with Kwame in a group which churned out hits after hits be constantly playing a track perceived as an insult to his partner? Well the cat has been let out of the bag now.

After seven years of one of the most famous splits in Ghana music industry, Okyeame Quophi, who happened to be in the group Akyeame with Okyeame Kwame has voiced out his bitterness over their split.

Last Wednesday night on Yaw Sakyi’s “Rundown” on TV Africa, tensions were raised as Okyeame Kwame sat right in the studios of TV Africa to listen to a sound bite from Quophi which described him as a lair.

In an interview, Okyeame Kwame disclosed he was completely surprised at what his former group mate said about him since the issue of their break up had been settled five years ago. They have at one point even contemplated on working out a new album together…

“We broke up based on ideological differences between us which meant that we were diverse in ideas and better-off as individuals and not a group”. The Ghana Music Awards 2009 ‘Artiste of the Year’ explained.

However, Quophi had a different reason for their breakup citing Kwame to have come to Accra under the pretense of recording his brothers. Not knowing he was recording his solo album. To Quophi some lies were told and will still hold it against some one he calls his brother for such a long time.

Okyeame Kwame on the other hand explains though it is true he did not inform Quophi of his solo project earlier, but he never lied to him. Not volunteering information and denying a fact when asked are two different things.

However, Kwame confided that he did later when he felt the time was right to tell him. In addition, Kwame clarifies that he has apologized severally to Quophi through his family, friends and even on radio through DJ Black’s show on Joy FM.

Whatever their reason for the split, every time I listen to an interview of both sides, one thing is evidently clear, Kwame always speaks well of Quophi  as a brother while Quophi is always angry or bitter about Kwame.

So the Question GhanaCelebrities.Com wants to throw out is that, what is Quophi’s bitterness all about after all these years? Don’t you think as a human as we are, Quophi has every right to be bitter?..

On the other hand,  if Kwame has truly gone through all these avenues to apologize to Quophi and they even contemplated recording an album together, then why is Quophi still bitter? Is it that Quophi can’t handle Kwame’s success in a field he so badly wants to be?

Is it a case of sour grapes or just trying to stir controversy? In your own minds, who seems to be right?

  1. Akyeame was one of my all time favorites. From “M3san Aba”, obaa pa and menko meda…great hits . Tis a shame they couldn’t keep it together. Unity is stranght and many music groups don’t learnt. BUK BAK did it and they fizzled, Akyeame did it and they will fizzle… now WUTAH is also doing the same. What’s wrong with these guys!

  3. in every (music) group just like every human organisations there happens to be the one that stands out. this “super human” is mostly attacked by his peers, he is made mockery of, he is hated on, etc. so guess who is hating on the other because his career is not “popping”. a word to the wise…

    • @Bygg Jo,wrong ma dear, Quophi has
a gud radio career, a record label, an audio- video production company, events management and promotion outfit etc. Kwame also has a gud music career, a record label an audio-video production company etc etc. both of them i doin well. pain and hurt are things which don’t disappear just lyk dat.

point of correction, during the days of akyeame, Kwame wasn’t the big shot.

      • FACT: his radio career has not hit the heights he hit on fox fm in kumasi and if my memory serves me right, he went into music video production, which was awful. i for one doubt his event management and promotion capabilities too.

FACT: kwame was the unsung hero of akyeame and its only fair he is getting his share of the spotlight. any meerkat can make a hit, but it takes a legend to stay in the game for over a decade and still stay on top of it.

  5. get over it quophi. during the hey days of akyeame, you thought you was the “daddy” of the group. your solo album sold about 147 cassettes and you still whinging. i liked akyeame in the 90’s, but quophi was far too arrogant and cocky with his fake burberry bandana. leaving fox fm for accra he thought his music and radio career was going to flourish……CAPUT!!!

  6. it’s not true that Kwame always speaks well of Quophi cos i’ve listened to an interview on radio where Kwame spoke badly of Quophi. if u’re in a group and u go on to record an album without informing your partner(s), wht are u tryin to tell dem?
i still feel that the two should sit down and trash out whteva issues they have. the Akyeame spirit should not be destroyed like dat. i also feel that Radio and TV presenters are contributing to this feud by interviewing the two on separate platforms and asking them this same issue which is over 7years. lets talk peace people. holla

    • interviewing the two on the same platform will do little to mend whatever issues they have. at least kwame has apologised, what else does he expect of him, compensation?  quophi always carried himself as the “alpha male”  which he clearly wasnt. i dont even like the guy. stop moaning fat boy and get on the treadmill!

  8. well if after growing up in ghana, you travel for a few days and come back with unnecessary and veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery fake accents, then it serves him right. quophi is a too known guy. yet his videos are whack! like those falling love in dela’s video, man that is YAWA. Kwami is good, no doubt. or you want him to give you some of the mtn ambassadorial money?

  9. Although okyeame apologied, i feel Quophi is right in some ways. Its more like two friend who work together and probably share everything in their work field together and then one takes a decision without the knowledge of the other.it really hurts, he is human and ofcourse would have memories. He might accept the aplogy but cant forget the issue. That was bad of okyeame for hiding it from him for some time. What would have happened if you had shared your plans together.Adwen bone nti….

  11. therez no need 4 either of them 2 be bitter or sad about anything. as we get older our prioties change further more every gud thing has an end. i think it’s time they bury all this beef stuff and focus on their individual careers.
