Dear GC Readers,
All My life I have simply avoided girls, I am not bisexual, neither am I gay but I just hate the company of females.
When they get closer to me it feels uncomfortable and I get really anxious.
I turn down proposals from girls for no reason. I hate to walk in the company of girls and so far no girl has sparked my interest in any other way and I am 24yrs old.
What can it possibly be?

Dear Benjamin,
Whilst your situation might sound unique or peculiar I can guarantee someone else will read this and relate to some of what you’re going through.
I can imagine anyone you may have confided in about this might be perplexed or advise you you’re likely to grow out of it. While I’m inclined to think the latter, the fact is there will be a genuine reason why as well as a solution.
What you’re describing sounds frustrating as I’m sure long term you will want to settle. What you don’t need to do is force yourself to feel what isn’t there. That’s the pressure you do not need. I’m sure you’re getting enough of that already.
As the scripts say ‘Heaven helps those who help themselves’ so as well as prayer and meditation, invest in seeing a therapist because it’s likely to be something relating to past or current family relationships or something further back in your childhood.
I say invest because the plain fact is therapy isn’t cheap however such behaviours won’t just disappear. In the long run what you’ll end up paying in emotional expense and the frustration of not knowing why you are feeling the way you do might be more than paying to see a therapist.
On the plus side you’re getting the proposals so eventually you’ll get to enjoy the joys of a little harmless flirting or more! Give it a chance.
