African Films Festival and Academy Awards (ZAFAA) 2010 is the second edition of the African Films Festival and Academy Awards.

It is organized in honour of African Film makers and artistes who have contributed to the development and progress of the African Film Industry in diverse ways.

Over the years the awards ceremony has been held in the UK and this year is no exception. The film festival will exhibit films by notable film makers from Africa in a four days event that shall create a network for rising stars in the industry to meet and network with the experts.

Few days ago on the reality TV show Big Brother All Star Africa, the Uganda rep- Hannington Kuteesa openly battered a female housemate-Lerato Sengadi from South Africa on Live TV.

Though the “woman beater” was kicked out of the show, his act throws light on the need to address the state of mind of most African men who believe women can be use as “Punching Bags”.

No matter what this woman said to him or did, Hannington has no right to beat the hell out of her as he did.

The above was a continental issue, now lets move to our own country-Ghana. The popular hiplife Musician & Adom Fm Presenter-Pope Skinny is in the news for beating up his long term girl friend, Efua.

As much as various movies and music are largely seeking to entertain the masses, we still expect to derive beyond entertainment, some kind of education, awareness or inspiration from these arts.

The roots, popularity and interests Ghanaian music and movie have gained over the years can be attributed to their relevant social content.

A common defining element of a true Ghanaian movie or music most of us were exposed to were the ones tackling various social, economical and political issues in our societies, presenting these to us with an entertaining coat.
