Miss World 2010: Ghana’s Rep Mimi Areme Places Second In The ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ Segment

Ahead of the finals of the Miss World Beauty Pageant tomorrow, Ghana’s rep Miss Ghana 2009, Mimi Areme has just placed second in the “beauty with a purpose segment” for her project of freeing child slaves in Ghana.

Kenya’s Natasha Metto who collaborated with Miss Kenya 2005 to educate and treat the jigger worm epidemic in Kenya won that segment, whiles third place went to El Salvador’s Gabriela Molina for her work building a home in rural village in her country.

RISING GHANAIAN dancehall icon Iwan is about to face one of the biggest challenges ever in his music career.

The young chap has bagged two nominations in the upcoming 4syte Music video awards scheduled for November 20, with his song ‘Me Gurl Love Me’.

He has been nominated in the Discovery of the year and the Best Reggae Video of the year categories. With the reggae category, Iwan is facing strong competition from artistes like Blakk Rusta, Blaq Suede, Wutah, Black Prophet and Kese.

In the Discovery category, he is also up against equally good artistes Eazzy, Mimi, OJ Blaq, Ruff & Smooth and Jon Germain. Obviously, he is the only the reggae artiste in this category. But whether that can transcend into him being the only artiste to win that category is a different ball game.

Baby Jet Asamoah Gyan, the Black Stars player who has become the new music icon in Ghana’s entertainment front, is expected to take music fans through a series of stage performances this December.

After featuring on Castro’s ‘African Girls’ hit single, which is currently topping all music charts, Asamoah has not had any major stage experience yet.

NEWS-ONE has gathered that Asamoah will be making history as he will be performing alongside Castro at the first ever Ghana Movie Awards event which is scheduled for December 25, and this would be followed by other stage appearances.

Stellar Group of companies, a blue-chip company specializing in the hospitality, travel and logistics industry, has hosted finalists of this year’s Miss Ghana beauty pageant competition to a night of spectacular performances.

Held at the Champs Sports Bar, one of the numerous facilities operated by the company, the night-long session saw all the participants, parade in their beachwear and evening wear clothing alongside choreographed performances.

The night also saw a stunning performance from sensational R&B singer Sandra Huston, much to the delight of the Sports Bar’s clients who had been invited to grace the occasion.

All twenty contestants gave a very good account of themselves and succeeded in giving away a vivid let-into of how Saturday’s final at the Accra International Conference Centre will be.

Ekow Blankson: I Was Warned About Socrates Sarfo

Respected Ghanaian actor Ekow Blankson is one of the lead actors who featured in ‘Rhapsody Of Love’, a new movie from the stables of Socrates Sarfo of ‘Hot Fork’ fame.This is the first time the experienced actor has worked with Socrates.

Ekow Blankson told NEWS-ONE yesterday that though people advised him not to act in a Socrates Sarfo movie; he had not regretted playing the role.

“I don’t know but a lot of people discouraged me from going to work with Socrates. I mean people in the industry. Some said he is very controversial but I wanted to find out myself so I went ahead and believe me he is not what people think he is,” Ekow disclosed.

He said what gave him the urge to go in for the movie was the script. “I saw the script, read the plot and liked it,” Ekow added.

GUBA awards have been branded as the best Ghanaian event yet after it celebrated the achievements of Ghanaians in the UK last weekend.

Founded by TV personality Dentaa, the Ghana UK based achievement awards on Sunday opened an opportunity for the unrecognised to be acknowledged.

Dentaa said “GUBA’s vital aim is to honour the achievements of Ghanaians living in the UK and also to boost the level of successes within the Ghanaian community in the UK.”

Winners on the night included Gospel veteran Sonnie Badu, legendary pop group Osibisa, Goldcoast Bar and restaurant, John Mensah, Josh hair and beauty, speedlink shipping etc

The Blackstars were also accredited on the night for their efforts at the World Cup.  John Mensah, Asamoah Gyan and GUBA Patron John Painstil were present to receive this special award.
