Fashion & Lifestyle: Tweed Is In, Grab Some For Yourself…

Don't Ever Wear What Ambrose Is Got On
Don't Ever Wear What Ambrose Is Got On

Fashion is like fine wine, it just keeps getting better with time. There are new looks for the suit and casual wearing man. Tweed is in; I intend to share some rules about this old school hot item that has taken the young elite of today by storm.

Ladies, the holidays are coming up, the better way to treat the important men in your life is with one of these tweed trends. Looking your best is an unspoken rule which is why even in the most conservative of cultures, there is a trend.

I have been advised that I tend to ignore pious trends so I intentionally mixed it in with western trends for this issue. I hate to do this to a fellow West African but because I can, I will, please don’t wear this outfit worn by (Kanye West’s ex lover) Amber Rose, I’m not sure if she was going for the hijab look but it still reveals too much of her Cape Verdean assets.

Believe it or not, there a multiple religions that embrace conservative clothing, the -ethnic Christians-Chaldeans of the Middle East, the Amish and some sects of Mormons in North America. The Islamic Fashion Consortium (IIFC), based in Indonesia for instance has 194+ exhibits pertaining to various countries around the world and their translation of Islamic clothing. Did you know the world famous Armani Emporium and many other westernized fashion houses have designs that cater to conservative wear?

Well here are a few samples from around the world: from top to bottom. Dubai’s Rabia Z has reinterpreted the sporty look to cater to her constituents who are youthful.

So too does the United Kingdom’s very own Sarah Elenany bring a youthful element to the tweed button up jacket, the fun feature is decorated/reversible inside additionally the hood is cut so that a stylized hijab can still be exposed.

La Cote d Voire has a gem in legendary design house Pathe O, these three designs here on either side exhibits the fun and effervescent ease in the people of the Sahel.

Rizwan Beyg of Pakistan does away with the dark colors most associated with conservative wear and is effective in his choice of orange layered stealthy design.

Dian Pelangi of Indonesia has been able to put sassy, bohemia in her rendition of the harem pant suit which is definitely a trend in non-conservative wear. Malaysia’s Calvin Thoo has brought a bit of old Hollywood glamour for the conservative bride and it works to perfection.

Men wearing tweed is not as new as I originally thought it was. Thanks to the Scottish and a queen in the late 18th century who saw this material as a good way to keep her hunters and sportsmen warm, this cultural icon remains.

The genesis of tweed fashion is credited to U.K giant, Harris Tweed, who today still creates stylish designs. I am not suggestion that you pile on all that tweed to be fresh, that would be a crime.

However, the exception or those that make it to a tailor to create a complete bespoke light-weight tweed suit similar to some the Ozwald Boateng, Harris Tweed and J Crew creations. As you can see from the easy on the eyes NBA star Dwayne Wade or R&B singer TreySongz a single item of tweed is the way to go.

Accenting tweed with a kind of silk or neutral clothing will make your physique a charm to behold. The rule of bright with dark consequently works in regular casual suit wear such as the example below.

Another casual gem is the plaid dress-shirt or long-sleeve, which is not to be confused with the grunge style that it was worn in the 90’s. There is a new invention out there for suits, the Paisley Double-tie, it is truly sexy for the stripped suit when complimented with a silk handkerchief.

The fold of a handkerchief can be tricky for some men, just remember “triangle” in the pocket which nicely goes with the bowtie.
