So soon, a new year has catch up on us and most of us will be doing a lot of reflection and planning. In one of my post this year titled “Mistakes Are Important Part Of Life”, I stated the importance of mistakes as we journey through life, do not ignore or lament over your mistakes of 2010.
Rather embrace it with a smile and critically scrutinize the cause and follies that lead to the mistakes so as to step away from a similar occurrence in the New Year.
2010 is coming to an end today and I will be looking at what went down in the Ghanaian Entertainment Industry in this post. I wish I can talk about everything but no, it’s not possible, so I will just highlight some of them and leave the rest.
The year 2010 was one interesting year. It was a booming year for the entertainment industry in Ghana without any doubt; a lot of collaborations between the Ghanaian and the Nigerian counterpart in the movie field as actors from these countries invaded both industries.
The year ended with resurgence of ‘twi’ (locally produced movies) hitting it hard with Agya Koo and Mr. Beautiful in fore front with the English movies. In 2010, I stepped on lots of toes but what are toes if not meant to be stepped on.
“Know what you know, know what you don’t know, and know who knows what you don’t know”
It takes a certain type of person with a certain type of quality to take on board constructive feedback and constructivism, no matter how painful the advise may seem. The first time someone told me ‘you’re too sensitive in nature’ I’d look at them as if they were speaking a native language from an undiscovered African Village. Me? Sensitive? If you say so! The thing is when someone makes such a comment about our personality, you can either brush it off in denial or think, do they have a point? Either way when the fifth or tenth person says it then it’s not denial it’s turning into arrogance!
The fact that it’s the end of the year means there is no escaping the Internet as well as print media which is saturated with ideas on how to keep resolutions. Take your pick there are thousands ideas to choose from! The problem here is, no matter how relevant the information is in all these books, blogs and newspapers/magazines, or what psychological academic genius has written the information, it will fast become irrelevant if the main aspect is missing…
If you have not seen Nana Boroo’s official video for his tune Bebia Soso feat Mugeez, then check it out below… What do you think of the video? Are you feeling it or not?
The Ghanaian International & Sunderland football star “John Mensah” invited Dentaa and her cameras into his crib. Check out the living space of John Mensah in the video below…
The year is wrapping up and a little birdie told me that some of our stars are considering posh treasures to ring in the New Year. For our leading ladies, the SUV has been the stamp of arrival into financial plenty.
We have yet to see the locomotives of our leading men; perhaps the clues here will shed light on their preferences. We dare to dream big but please be wise with your hard earned money. Should the readers have any hot tips about the latest cars driven by our movie stars feel free to drop a line to the editor for us to confirm.
This year we celebrated the wedded bliss of actress Juliet Ibrahim what better way for her pilot husband to welcome the bun in the oven than to certify the new born with a gift that not even the average 17 year old can boast of having, a car. The TATA Nano to be precise, but not just any one will do a gold encrusted version.
Just before Christmas, the popular Ghanaian musician “Nana Quame” celebrated 5years of marriage to his wife. Mr & Mrs Nana Quame (Atiaa Donko) have been together for 8yrs and married for 5. They have been blessed with a 4 year old son and another is on the way.The event which took place in East London was … Read more
Anybody who thinks High Life music is dead, got to be kidding and any one, who still shares the opinion that, Abrantie Amakye Dede cannot express himself well in the Queen’s language, should rethink.
Earlier on, in a week or two ago, Abrantie Amakye Dede was reported to have announced to Ghanaians, especially his fans that, he will perform beyond his known 20 minutes that he has always been allotted whenever he is invited to a show.
I can’t help but get ahead of time and take a sneak peak at the key trends for 2011 spring/summer seasons. Well ladies it is truly my duty to keep SassyChic! readers in the loop and up to date!

Yesterday, the 27day of December 2010 saw one of the best High Life artistes of Ghana mount the stage of the Accra International Conference Centre to perform to a “mature” crowd.
The concert which was dubbed ‘Abrantie Amakye Dede Live In Concert’ and was organized by rLG Telecommunication.
As we prepare to review the concert, check out some of the photos our cameras captured for your viewing pleasure.
Over the weekend, Sulley Ali Muntari (Muslim) married his long term girlfriend “Menaye Donkor” (Christian) in Accra.
Despite how happy the couple appeared and not to talk of how long they have been together, various people are of the view that Sulley as a practising Muslim should have married within his religion.
Marriage I believe goes beyond religion; what matters most is your happiness and compatibility.
I’d like to think that for some of us ladies may have such dry or rough hands because of course we are hard working labour intensive women….well that’s what my excuse was when someone (it’s always the dudes and your rude aunties) would ask why my hands were not soft.
I would hold up both my hands with a sarcastic slightly smile and answer…these are the hands of a hard working woman! But no…this is not actually the case. I got my hands from my pops side of the family, even one of his young granddaughters has it so there you go. What’s a gurl to do with these genetically imperfect ‘gifts’. Of course it didn’t help that I used to spring clean the kitchen and bathroom with no gloves, you can imagine what those chemicals did to my hands, they were becoming dangerous weapons!
When the Ghana Movie Industry was in the gutters, Agya Koo with some few people saved the industry. Even though people complained about the poor pictures of their movies; they were able to hold the fort till this very day.
As you wait for the ‘sardine’; you must first continue to eat your ‘koobi’. Interestingly, that’s exactly what the likes of Agya Koo did and now the industry has boomed and still booming.
Many people from all quarters have hailed the judgment of the Ghana Movie Awards Jury for declaring Agya Koo as the Overall Best Actor in Ghana, hence taking home a new SUV Zotye as his prize in addition to the statuettes he was given on the awards day.
Their judgment was lauded as a good judgment yesterday at the plush Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra. In the Overall Best Actress, Kyeiwaa lost out to Jackie Appiah and co.
Kindly give this e-mail the audience it deserves by publishing it on GhanaCelebrities.Com for me. I am very disappointed and have lost the little hope I had in the Ghana Movie Industry.
Am I still dreaming or what? Do you guys mean to tell me that, The Best Actress In A Lead Role Award went to the 4 people namely Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Okoro and Rosely Ngissah?
Apart from the African Movie Industry where 4 people can be awarded as “Best Actress”, I am yet to come across such way of awarding in any part of the world. How can 4 people win a single award and use one SUV car?
Do the organizers of the Ghana Movie Awards believe they will cultivate any credibility for this popularity contest they are paddling? Did they award merit or popularity? Maybe they awarded demerits rather.
Still waiting for Ebenezer who went to the Ghana Movie Awards jury meeting on behalf of GhanaCelebrities.Com to bring in the full gist.
However, I am reliably informed that Jackie Appiah & Co have been given a brand new SUV as 2010 Best Actress In Ghana (beating Kyeiwaa) while Kofi Adu popular known as Agya Koo ” snatched ” the Best Actor’s SUV from Majid Michel.
Yesterday was the day most Ghanaian movie lovers waited for, the Accra International Conference Centre was full of glamour as various celebrities came to be part of the Ghana Movie Awards experience. GhanaCelebrities.Com was there as usual and below are some of the photos we captured… Click on photos to enlarge for proper view
After a Story Writer writes a remarkable story to make a good movie, the story is then translated into a script form by a Scriptwriter who sometimes doubles as the story writer.
Actors and actresses are approached for casting by the Casting Crew. With crew and behind the scene individuals such as Costumier/Wardrobe, Location Manager, Make Up Artist, Welfare Personnel, Continuity, Light/ Sound, Graphic, Post Production, Editor, Director Of Photography, Producers, and Director, shooting then begin.
After weeks to months to years of shooting and editing, there is a movie to be sold and be watched. After selling the movie and making the millions (in whichever currencies), what follows next? Acknowledgement if you ask me. And that is what the Ghana Movie Awards seeks to achieve, to acknowledge and award the people who have one way or the other contributed to the growth of the Ghana Movie Industry.
I am not sure how this publication will go down but I think it is Christmas and I will be forgiven. It seems Sulley Ali Muntari & Menaye Donkor did not want cameras at their wedding, even if they did, they wanted to control who is taking what pictures.
I have managed to get the below photos of the much anticipated celebrity wedding. I am not informed that Menaye or Sulley does not want their wedding photos on here, so I will take the chance. If it does not go well with them and they or their agents make a contact to request its removal, I will quickly take the photos off.
The marriage ceremony (Engagement) between the Ghanaian International and Inter Milan Football star “Sulley Ali Muntari” and his long term girlfriend “Menaye Donkor” took place today at Dzowulu. Sulley Muntari has done what is expected of every honourable man and I really respect him for that.
Which Ghanaian celebrity would you like to rock with this Christmas? If you are given the chance to invite your favorite celebrity to a Christmas party, who will you go for, why him/her? I wouldn’t even worry myself considering ‘Striker Samini’ on my list. Yes i don’t want to spend much, dude will drain me … Read more

Earlier this month, Ghanaian ace Director/Scriptwriter Shirley Frimpong Manso was recognized by the BBC and invited her to join the list of their shortlist of remarkable individuals who have won awards around the world for 2010. This list featured outstanding people in their chosen field; from Medicine to Entertainment.
At the BBC World Studios in London, Ms Shirley Frimpong Manso of Sparrow Productions talked about the African Movie Academy Award Winning movie “Perfect Picture”, movie production in Africa-the setbacks and the optimism.
On Christmas Day, the Ghana Movie Awards will roll out at the Accra International Conference Centre. The award is dubbed the party of the season, this is because half of the seats at the venue has been allotted for the movie makers, that’s actors, actresses, directors, producers as well as behind the scene professionals and crews.
The awards scheme is put together to award excellence in the movie making industry in Ghana. The Ghana Movie Industry has seen a great improvement and it is appropriate that people who helped or people who are still helping are awarded for their great work.
There is no better time to award them than now. The venue will be filled with both crème la de crème from Nollywood and Ghana industry players. As we wait for the day to know who wins what, let me run through my predictions. Predictions are predictions, they don’t really come to pass so I don’t expect anybody to comment out of context, remember you are also free to predict.
In football, there is win, lose and draw but in this one, it’s only about two things; winners and those who will not win (I didn’t use losers for a reason, because the fact that you have been nominated means they are already a winner).
After Sparrow Production ushered us into Christmas with their remarkable “6 Hours To Christmas”, Zedec Entertainment Films was to hit our screens with another well written and directed Christmas movie “MASQUERADES” which features the veteran Actor “Katawere” alongside Desmond Elliot, Lydia Forson, Anang Adjety, Senanu Gbedawuo and others.
Heavyweight hiplife trio – Vision In Progress (VIP)- has denied that one of its members, Prodigal, was last Friday caught in an erotic position with someone’s girlfriend at Zenith University College in Accra.
Reports say Prodigal, known in private life as Joseph Nana Ofori, was with the pretty-faced Jasmine Seyram Akortsu, winner of Face of Tertiary 2009, when her boyfriend banged into the room and started raising hell. The guy, whose name was simply given as Felix, was said to have got angry and physically assaulted Jasmine, while Prodigal tried to separate the two.
A source at the La District Police Station told ‘News One’ that the case was reported last Friday evening and both Felix and Jasmine were detained briefly. Te police source added that though Prodigal’s name came up in the case, it could not be confirmed that he was dating Jasmine or that the two were caught in the erotic position. ‘News One’ gathered that after Felix assaulted Jasmine, he also seized her car keys to prevent her from leaving campus as he raised an alarm to gather more students to witness the scene.
He however gave the car keys to a friend who handed it over to Jasmine and just when she was about to drive out of the school, Felix was reported to have stood in front of the car, daring her to move. “It was like a Hollywood movie. Jasmine moved the car with such speed that if the guy had had not jumped, he would have died. But he hanged on to the bonnet and she kept driving till she moved out of campus and turned left heading towards Formula 1 Race way while the guy was still hanging on to the bonnet. “What saved the situation was that there was a Police Checkpoint on the road and she was forced to stop. So the two were taken to the police station and locked up,” a student eyewitness source told ‘News One’.
The much anticipated enchanting Ghanaian Movie Awards will be taking place at the Dome, Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday ,25th December, 2010 and some of the best in the industry will be battling head to head to win their various nominated categories.
I have listed below four categories which have some of the industry’s big whips for you to make your predictions. Who takes which category? I have made my own predictions after each nomination. What are yours?
The Ghana Music industry has grown and continues to grow. The number of musicians keeps increasing on daily basis. People who are still feeding on their mum’s breast even say they are born musicians. This has put pressure on the handful of sound engineers around.
Just when other sound engineers are increasing their studio recording sessions, Richie is about to do something people will consider unthinkable, but according to him, he is doing this to forestall the rumour that he charges high fees when recording for an artiste.
Richie Mensah of Lynx Entertainment with the sensation ‘You know the name right’ and ‘It’s a hit meeeeen’ has disclosed to GhanaCelebrities.com that he has decided to give out free beat every month commencing this month.
Richie is a sound engineer and owns the one of the youngest label Lyxn Entertainment. He has produced hits after hits for mostly the established hip life artistes in the country.
His works has been acknowledged and accepted outside the shores of Africa. At his young age, he has in his repertoire, two Ghana Music Awards Sound Engineer of the Year awards; 2009 and 2010.
