The Jury of the upcoming Ghana Movie Awards is officially announcing that Ama Ghana, a local language (Twi) movie directed by Frank Gharbin is the single movie that topped the awards’ nominations, released couple of weeks ago at the plush Golden Tulip hotel in Accra.

The movie which stars some of the crème de la crème of the twi movie industry such as Agya Koo, Clement Bonney aka Mr. Beautiful, Vivian Jill among others got 14 nominations ahead of Shirley Frimpong Manso’s A Sting In A Tale which also had 13 nominations.  Leila Djansi’s Sinking Sand followed closely with 12 nominations.

In all, there were 33 movies with 134 nominations in 25 categories. ‘Sinking Sands’ could have led the entire selection but such categories such as Best Actor, Cinematography, Editing, Make-up, and Effects were disregarded because the departments in the film’s production were headed by foreigners.

Hero Production’s movie, ‘The Game’, directed by Frank Raja and Shirley’s ‘Checkmate,’ came next with 10 nominations each, while Ghana’s youngest director, Kobi Rana’s, ‘Kiss Me If You Can,’ also followed with 6 nominations. Leila’s ‘I Sing of Well’ was next with 5 nominations as well as Venus Film’s ‘The Beast.’

  1. the jury is wrong.

    1. they counted a sting in a tale twice for best original song. best original song counts as 1.

    2. best actor in a supporting role was also counted twice for Ama Ghana. That is also wrong.

    3. this whole GMA award is bogus!
