Say It Loud: Shut Up! Ignorant Ghana Movie Awards Critics

blank

Yes! Some of the Ghana Movie Awards critics must shut up if they don’t have anything important to say. People must learn to talk a bit of sense; they must not talk for the simple reason that, they have a voice.

I say this without fear or favour. I have always wondered if there is a category called ‘Loose Talk’ in the Guinness book of records. If there is any, then am sure Ghanaians will always fight for that slot.

Talking of loose talks, from the top government officials to the layman on the street are guilty of this. How pathetic! People who should have known better allow their selfish mindset to rule them into talking out of context (in the stomach direction manner).

People sit on radio and talk absolute claptrap, just because they have a voice, they appear on TV and throw up trash. People write like they were not fed with breast milk from their mothers.

It amazes me why Ghanaians always want to rubbish another man’s efforts. It’s surprising to know that some charlatans  within the industry are doing everything possible to rubbish the Ghana Movie Awards.

Some have tagged the awards as Abdul Sallam Awards; others call it Fred Nuamah Awards.

Others say, the award is a one man show award which pushes me into a coma of big laugh. I felt like throwing up anytime I hear these ungrateful greedy folks openly showing their hatred for good things and a forward move in the Ghana Movie Industry.

Once upon a time in 2000, these same unscrupulous characters castigated Charter House, insulted their outfit, their workers, just for the simple reason that they wanted to start an awards scheme for the countries’ musicians.

Several years down the line, Ghanaians have not been able to initiate any awards or not ready to start any, instead of being grateful for a foreigner, some run their okro mouths insulting every Tom, Dick and Harry because  one or two things didn’t go their favour.

Ghana Music Awards, whether Ghanaians like it or not, is one of the respected awards scheme to be given birth to in the country. It will also the biggest entertainment event on the Ghanaian calendar. So let’s shut up with our pull-him-down attitude.

To say Ghana Movie Awards is a one man show is quite narrow, after all, how many people go to bed and have the same dreams? Isn’t it appropriate that someone dreams about something and shares it with people who want to listen or people who want to support him? Ghanaians, please wake up.

I am not playing the Ghana / Nigeria card here but If, Ghanaians say Charter House is owned by a Nigerian and therefore complaining needlessly how a foreigner can organize an award (Ghana Music Awards) for us, why can’t Ghanaians support one of their own who is in the process of organizing something similar with a massive potential? “Stop hating! What kind of jealous be this?”

The other time, in a conversation between two entertainment reporters, one was telling the other that, I (Ebenezer) came into the entertainment industry not too long ago and I am all over the place. I smiled but said in my head “Stop the needless backbiting and do your job without fear or favour. Also, stop kissing people’s backside and you will be at all places too”.

Ghanaians must stop being jealous of fellow country men. If you have an idea, bring it on board. Awards like this magnitude needs funding, if you don’t have it and someone else has it and he’s doing it, just shut up and support the movement.

The fact that you can write doesn’t make you more knowledgeable, the fact that you get the opportunity to be on radio doesn’t mean you have the best of voice and the fact that you get to appear on TV, doesn’t mean you are the most handsome or beautiful one out there.

Even if nothing at all, Ghanaians must be proud that someone has come up to do something for our growing movie industry. Maybe they want Ghanaian actors to always go outside for other awards. We should stop forcing a square peg into a round hole.

The fact that your favourites were not nominated simply means their movies were not good enough, so stop raving and ranting. Criticize constructively and stop following the ignorant crowd. People don’t do movies with awards in mind but certainly, this award will raise the par in the industry.

Let’s give the organizers, G. P. Limited and Image Consortium the benefit of the doubt and let us all converge at the Accra International Conference Centre on Christmas Day 25th December, 2010 to witness what Ghanaians have longed to see. Tickets goes for 50 Ghana Cedis for V.I.P and 100 GHC for V.V.I.P.
