Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘A Sting In A Tale’ Rules Ghana Movie Awards 2010! Agya Koo, Majid Michel, Kyeiwaa, Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buari & Others Were Winners Too…

Jackie Appiah @ Ghana Movie Awards 2010
Jackie Appiah @ Ghana Movie Awards 2010

After a Story Writer writes a remarkable story to  make a good movie, the story is then translated into a script form by a Scriptwriter who sometimes doubles as the story writer.

Actors and actresses are approached for casting by the Casting Crew. With crew and behind the scene individuals such as Costumier/Wardrobe, Location Manager, Make Up Artist, Welfare Personnel,  Continuity, Light/ Sound, Graphic, Post Production, Editor, Director Of Photography, Producers, and Director, shooting then begin.

After weeks to months to years of shooting and editing, there is a movie to be sold and be watched. After selling the movie and making the millions (in whichever currencies), what follows next? Acknowledgement if you ask me.  And that is what the Ghana Movie Awards seeks to achieve, to acknowledge and award the people who have one way or the other contributed to the growth of the Ghana Movie Industry.

Ladies and Gentleman! You are welcome. The Ghana Movie Awards 2010 dubbed the ‘Party of the Season’ took place yesterday at the Accra International Conference Centre. Indeed the show started a little late than expected but for a first attempt, I think the organizers should be pardoned.

The first award on the night went to Alhaji Abdul Sallam of Venus Films. He won the Best Story with Who Loves Me. The surprise awards on the night were the Favourite Actor and Actress awards which went to the two banned actors; Kofi Adjorlolo and Yvonne Nelson. Both awards was met with ‘oooh’ and ‘ahhh’, clearly the audience showed their dislike for the winners.

People GhanaCelebrities.com spoke to after the awards were of the views that, Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa should have won the above awards, not the actual recipients.

Some argued that in terms of popularity, which was the yardstick to determine the winners, they felt Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa should have taken the awards home.

Sparrow Production’s Shirley Frimpong Manso was adjudged the best director (English) for her work-‘A Sting In A Tale’. Her works ruled the awards night.

She won the following awards: Best Writing – Adapted Or Original Screen Play For ‘A Sting In A Tale’, ‘Best Make Up’ To Jane A. Williams (Check Mate). Best Cinematography: Bob J (A Sting In A Tale), Best Original Song: A Sting In A Tale (4×4).  Best Music Score: ‘A Sting In A Tale’.

Leila Djansi’s Sinking Sands also won the following awards; Best Art Direction, Best Wardrobe: Mabel Germain, Best Move / African Collaboration And Best Picture.

In the supporting role categories, Clement Bonney a.k.a. Mr. Beautiful and Nana Ama McBrown picked the honours in the local language categories whiles Nadia Buari and John Dumelo won in the English language.

For the actor and actress in the leading role both English and in Local Language was won by Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, Rose Mensah a.k.a. Kyeiwaa and Kofi Adu a.k.a. Agya Koo respectively.

It came out that though Jackie Appiah was adjudged as the winner, her other 3 nominees in the category Yvonne Okoro, Juliet Ibrahim, Roselyn Ngissah will all receive a statuettes each.

The most bizarre of the night was after Agya Koo was announced as the best actor in his category; the stage was crowded by all the nominees in the category.

Another thing I noticed about all the award winners is that, all of them showed their gratitude to the organizers. They really appreciated it and wished the organizers well. This was superb!

Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa will be voted for by a 13 panel judges making the MAG Jury. After the votes, the Overall Best Actor and Overall Best Actress will be declared and each of them will drive home a new Zotye SUV.

Agya Koo has said that, he is going back to Kumasi with one of the cars. Do you think Majid Michel can spoil his party? What about Jackie Appiah and Kyeiwaa?

The voting by the Jury takes places today at the Golden Tulip Hotel at 5:30. its strictly by invitation and opened to the media. GhanaCelebrities.com will be there to bring you proceedings. Once again kudos to Fred Nuamah.

  1. I think the voting is not helping at all.It seems the whole award scheme for the film industry is a popularity contest. I think organisers should set up an academy membership or committee comprising veterans in the industry, renowned film makers etc to help determine the winners and voting should be 30 percent or we keep having the same people win over and over again.I also think some special a wards should be introduced to honor to some outstanding creative figures who inspite of talent never received awards.

  2. eewwww…..yawa awards….they only picked ppl they favor…like come on, magid, jackie, genevieve are overated…its not dat serious when these ppl act..ppl hype them for no reason…they picked genevieve because ppl hype shit so much…silent scandal is not different from all the movies genevieve and ramsey or jim iyke did…but out of favoritism, look at how they picking these “not dat serious” acts…for some reasons, i dnt respect the ghana movie awards…until i see better improvement, it will remain so…yawa big time

  3. Seriously,Jackie does not deserve that award. I wonder y they keep counting her amongst the best when she is not even close.I think that award is meant for Rose Ngissah or probably Yvonne Okoro. Those girls were oustanding in 4play.They are countless other people who are doing pretty well.A couple of other wins are undeserving.there is more room for improvement for the organizers.

      • hun,the truth hurts but those supporters should take it in good faith.Besides,we who criticize her may be doing her more good than harm.criticism, well constructive criticism is good,it might make her stronger and better.I am not saying she is that bad,I am just saying there is more room for improvement.I believe she will mature in the bizness, she is just not there yet.But for now,I think we should give the awards to deserving figures or people,Period!!!

    • I agree too. Beside why the fuck most of them was grumbling and whining when Adjorolo and Yvonne Nelson won the “favorite year” award. Just because those two are banned for a certain time doesn’t mean they ain’t shit.

At least Nadia got one, Jackie Appiah and companies got one now what’s the deal.

      Reply
      • Merry xmans brugh but the deal is they would have probably want the person above the picture to take more home and some to fail I mean how many celebs when to the awards instead of putting a picture that would have repesent everybody looks who’s one the put down

  4. I also think the supporting actor should have been gone to Adjetey Anang a who I think should have been in the best actor category.Adjetey, y ou are winner,I still got your back.

  5. this award ceremony is more like a popular contest than the raw talent. i think veteran actors and entertainers should also have a say in who wins the awards otherwise actors with talent will always miss out

WHO KNOWS SHE MIGHT EITHER BRIBE THEM OR SLEEP WITH THEM JACKIE IS TOO GREEDY AND THESE CANNOT BE EXEMPTED.

I mean seriously, seriously Ghanaians lets face facts,Jackie aint that good.Jackie should thank her fans and stars cuz she is one lucky, happy girl to have swapped that award away from Roselyn.

Even playing her among the supporting role nominees made me smelt rat. That yeye Nadia shouldn’t even celebrate cos Khareema and Yvonne are a billion times better. Greedy Nadia stop buying men with ur loose pussy.

      • Congrats to Jackie Appiah for making it again. U truly are a gem. Winning 2 AMMA in a row and 2 Ghana best actress in a row. Never mind what idiotic dullards say about u. They r bitter cos they can never accomplish in life like u dear. U r not only the best but the finest as well. Most of these restless and hopeless haters like lily, jane, edith, miyagi, efe and co are all useless bunch of bastards who know no shit aba acting. Keep on winning more awards to breaks more hearts and make more paralized and give more BP to haters. U r the best and no actress in Ghana comes close to u. U r 200 years ahead of them and people only hate cos u keep doing well and winning more and more awards. Big ups to Majid too. U 2 r the best and should act in big and better budgeted movies. May God keep blessing and sustaining u guys.

      • How on earth could artificial and greenhorn actress like Nadia win over Yvonne Nelson and Khareema Aguiar. This isn’t fair at all. How much did her father pay the judges for Nadia to win over Khareema or Yvonne Nelson. Na yawa oo. Nadia indeed shouldn’t celebrate cos it belonged to Khareema. John also is great but i think Adjetey Annang shold have won.

Why did ghanacelebrities only highlighted Jackies name like she was the only winner of Best actress in leading roll of English Language I have seen the original list and nowhere states that jackie was the only winner of leading roll of English languages but it was all four girls Roselyn, Juliet, Yvonne and jackie so why highlight only her name Luke she was the big winner I mean if I look at this list compare to GC list than I guess all of you there are just hypocrites and probably dissapointed that jackie didn’t win in her own no grudges or something but we expect the right list not your own kind of list that made up make us believe that she is the only one that won it Below is the full list of winners:
