Out Of Box Story: Carlton Cole Charged By FA For Racist Comments Towards Ghanaians on Twitter, Calling The Crowd At The England v Ghana Match Refugees…

Carlton Cole
Carlton Cole

I woke up on this glorious spring morning in such a good mood, getting ready to worship the Lord, until I came across an article…

The BBC Sports website reports how the West Ham striker, Carlton Cole, has been charged by the English Football Association (FA) for racist comments he made against Ghanaians on Twitter, during their friendly with England on 29th March.

The West Ham striker was basically insinuating that the large number of Ghanaians that had gathered at Wembley to support the Black Stars were refugees, by tweeting this foolishness:

“Immigration has surrounded the Wembley premises! I knew it was a trap! Hahahahaha! The only way to get out safely is to wear an England jersey and paint your face w/ the ST. George flag.” (sic)

I did not hear about this at all until now, and I must say it has caused me to reach volcanic boiling point, as I feel that this has not been the first time that Ghana has been disrespected by a BLACK player from the England National Team.

During 2010’s World Cup when England had to face Germany, I remember that Jermaine Defoe was asked a question along the lines of which team he was hoping would win the match between Ghana and Australia.

He said Ghana, and I thought “aww bless him”, but his next comment promptly wiped the smile of my face; he wanted Ghana to win and Germany to lose so that England would face Ghana, and get through to the next round. Mr Defoe had already made the assumption that Ghana was inferior to England and henceforth if the Black Stars were to face the Three Lions, defeating the Black Stars would be unquestionable.

Ever since the World Cup, my dislike for Jermaine Defoe has also been unquestionable. It’s just sad (and pathetic) to see all these Black players who feel the need to insult Ghana.

Danny Welbeck (born to Ghanaian parents in London) chose to play for the England National team- that’s all well and good and his choice but he has not felt the need to insult Ghana. Welbeck has fully acknowledged that he is Ghanaian but plays for England as it is the land of his birth.

Flip the coin to the other side, and you have “Italian” Mario Balotelli- born in GHANA to Ghanaian parents but given up for adoption to Italian parents because they wanted a better life for him, not only does he fully refuse to even acknowledge the Ghanaian blood running in him, but has also emphasised on many occasions his intention to never play for the Black Stars.

My problem at the moment is this- not the fact that they don’t want to play for the Black Stars because as we can all see, our team is doing perfectly well without these BOYS on their team. The thing I have an issue with- especially regarding the Cole and Defoe situation- is why they feel they need to put the Black Stars down because we are an African team.

These BOYS should not forgot where they are originally from- no matter how much fish and chips they consume or whether they are familiar with the whole Cockney vocabulary of the East End of London, they will NEVER EVER be fully English.

These two Caribbean BOYS (Cole and Defoe) forget that their blood lies in Africa, and that they are descended from Africa. Every time I hear about a Caribbean (and not just football players) making foolish statements about Africa, I not only want to slap the Black off them, but deep down I feel sorry for them; it’s almost like they’re trying to prove a point to the English people- that they were born here so they are true Englishmen…errrr wrong!!!!

If I was born in China, I would not be calling myself Chinese!

Seriously, if I hear another Black celebrity making a scathing comment about Ghana again, GC readers you guys are going to hear about me in both National and International news cause I will hunt that person down and beat them like they were my step-child.

Regardless of where I was born, I know I am a true Ghanaian- my twi may not be up to par, and I might not like the taste of fufu but I know the Ghanaian blood flows through me, and I will not allow myself to “get lost in the hype” of trying to “brofolise” myself….I rep Ghana until the day I die.

Some of these Black people need to start acknowledging where they are from and be proud- because a White man does not see you as an English person, or even an African or Caribbean. At the end of the day, we’re all just BLACKS to them, so the sooner we start accepting and being proud of our heritage, the better it will be for us!

Gosh, I cannot believe this boy (Cole) has made me so angry on the Lord’s Sabbath day- let me go and pray for his soul….right after I go and do some research to find out where he lives!

I am so fuming mad right now that I’ll just let you guys to check up on this from BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13020733.stm

    • hmmmm look whichever way you look at it that was a no no. He sounds really foolish really because above all else you now have that tag on you against your own ppl. That is some stupid ish to be getting yourself into. Ok so yea he trynna say it is a joke but surly you shud get that when you do that you are giving your non black team mates, pals etc to run with it. So if they told him yea half of them refugees in their are your own family would he still laugh? So am sure he wishes he shuda kept that one to himself.  Can’t say I agree with the Dafoe one coz that’s just footy speak. Dafoe wuda said that regardless of who Australia had to play so you can’t take it too personal.

      • where in the twitter post did C.Cole call anyone a refugee. A joke blown entirely out of context…..England has immigration problems.fact. There are lots of African illegal immigrants in England.Fact.

We are the ones who create problems for ourselves when we view every little post as offensive, racist etc.

I’m sure the illegal immigrants(yes there many of them) will prefer footballers posted jokes abt their illegal status rather than the authorities arresting and deporting them.

Carlton Cole hasn’t placed a tag on anyone…the tag is already there….he only made a light hearted joke about it just like people make blonde jokes, americans are fat jokes.etc

UK and France are members of the EU and so allow people move more freely between member nation and they also have ties with their former colonies. The US is a nation of immigrants and has always had lot of immigration and still has undeveloped land. Japan has always been ethnocentric and isolated themselves from the world until the US forced them to open their ports to trade about a 150 years ago. They are an island with a high population density but so is UK and Japan was no more welcoming to immigrant decades ago than they are now when their population density was less than the current density in the United kingdom
For Carlton Cole making a statement like that on twitter towards a millions of people and was all over the news and even twitter confirmed it and your here chatting shit You seem confused you need a back hand slap to come back to your sense again unless your a fucking White stranger on the wrong website bullshitting around and trust me I don’t have nothing avaunt whites but I’m not afraid to open my mouth even at work  u tell them the same thing I don’t tolerate any nonsense from no one What about asian some eastern europeans, Jamaica etc aren’t they all part of it and your here pin pointing at Africa like I said you deserve to be smacked really hard

defoe never insulted Ghana, he spoke from a purely footballing perspective if u had the slightest knowledge about the game u’d realise England have always found Germany as their bogey side hence his comments.

Maybe you need to write more on relationships.etc.

Your post about immigration is totally irrelevant to the issue at hand so i’m not even gonna rebutt, god work with the copy and paste though…i admit thats something u are good at.

  10. no golden gurl..the F.A charged him for improper conduct. Anyone who follows english football wont be surprised as the F.A’s blind drive for political correctness has seen them charge many footballers for seemingly harmless twitter posts.

Carlton Cole will not have been charged in any of the other top european leagues. The english media is notorious raising hell about the most trivial things premier league footballers do and sadly the F.A indulge the scandal seeking media by charging footballers over silly things.

Maybe if Richard Scudamore and his cronies at the F.A concentrate on breeding quality footballers instead of what the footballers post on twitter and who the number of women they decide to sleep with England won’t be so shit at international football level.

    Reply
    • Ok fair enuff he was not charged with racism, more research needed on my part… but you appear to be doing all you can to also defend seemingly arrogant football players to say and do what they want. A spade is a spade. You know people will take a mile if given opportunity to take even an inch and that is why they jump on it with what you describe as being over sensitive political correctness. Are you saying the should have different rules to the common man on the street coz they footy players. they need to be bought back down to earth and touch with reality. Their arrogance can sometimes precede them and am sure he was bought back down to earth if not by the charge but at least by the reaction. Let the dude learn! Anyway you got your thoughts you took it likely but don’t get pissed or annoyed at people who are offended. Too you it’s haha to peeps like myself it foolishness. SIMPLE.

u are makn my point for me golden gurl…the common man on the streets makes far worse jokes than that….how many ‘commoners’ do u see getting charged by the authorities for posting potentially offensive stuff online. take g.c for example…many ppl come here and and rain needless insults on public figures they dislike but if said figure says anything remotely offending on their facebook or twitter hell breaks lose. no ‘common man’ would be charged for tweeting what cole tweeted.

anyway u made ur points, i made mine….this topic is exhausted. peace.

  12. @ mackie5667, dude just keep your sense of humor. Maybe only you and I thought it was funny. No fuss no moss. Some people find it offensive, that’s their prerogative as is yours and mine who saw the humor. So while others get mad we will laugh at the humor. I wonder what the Polish and Albanians thought of his comments. His comment would be an ideal catalyst to bring the immigration problem to the forefront of a national dialogue in pressuring the UK government to do something about helping people, maybe through amnesty, to become legal residents. Unfortunately Cole gets hammered, the UK government gets away with benefiting from the productivity of illegal immigrants contribution to their economy. Shortsightedness I guess. Life is indeed a comedy. Live long and prosper. 13. such a crap from this guy called carlton

@mackie ,though u right ..there are many afrricans livinging in the uk ,iwould say even way the EU was formed ..that made also many move to the uk cos of their big tolererant for foreigners ..even the small poor Eu contries like rumania ,bulgaria ,litau ….went to UK to search for green pastures …So it was absolute rubbish for Carlton to make such comment at a time 20.000 ghanians were cheering up their team ….

    Reply
    • i mean u right that are many africans livining in the uk illegally but not forgetting there are also many whites folks from this poor Eu countries i metioned before living there illegally ..e.g poland ,russia etc …and there is no need to for cole to joke abt the ghaian illegal immigrants
… he just had a bad day or bad taste in his mouth ….

  14. Kr…funny we don’t hear of the Poles and Albanians creating mayhem over c.coles comments. probably because they know its not serious. it’s even funnier how most people here and other gh blogs have reacted to the comments..all they say is cole is stupid, cole is a fool, cole is dumb without addressing the main issue.

Mother…trust me, there are worse jokes made about the pakis, poles and albanians in the U.K more than they joke abt africans.

we as blacks are overplaying the racism card..it’s boring now…..i suggest all the people carlton has offended on this blog read Adebayors comments after he suffered racial abuse by tottenham fans during the real madrid-tottenham game.

Maybe if all the offended people channeled their energy into being better people instead of wasting it on misplaced anger we will better our standings as blacks.

    • @Mackie I didn’t want to response anymore but just answer me one question because your twisting the whole story now where there any poles and albanian people in the stadium and did you really understand his joke, if you can explain that to me than I will withdraw my comments than you claim to know allot about football
While they are trying to fight racism he makes a dumb joke to his own kind is that a good look according to you, once again if you knew allot about football like you claim than you would no that discriminating is one thing they trying to fight of I have played football for 13 years and for someone to be making a joke like that is bad albanians and pols would have react on it if it came from a white man do you think pols care about black people like some asians don’t they will be probably laughing at us instead of reacting on topic

      • miyagi just read Kr’s comments a few posts above, i suggest you click on the link he pasted as well and read all c.coles tweets and not just the one that has created this needless furor and you’ll find the answers you seek.

you playing football for 13 years has got fuck all to do with the issue here. i don’t see any of the ghanaian footballers who played in that game making any fuss of what cole said.
