It is sad but a bit FUNNY that, at a time when ‘Who is a celebrity in Ghana‘ is under discussion, a bunch of our so called Celebrities could not even secure VISAS with their celebrity status…

@miss dior, I am an american citizen and they deny ppl for many reasons: the credibility of your invitation letter. Your account statement and the person who you is hosting you bank statement at least 10,000 dollars in their account which show that they can take care of you if something was to happen while you visit in america. Proof that you have a job. etc and luck. Some of these so called Ghana celebs dont have any money in their account. They be fronting like they got it but they dont got shit but a couple of bullshit movies to their name. They trully got the word Celebrity twisted. Hollywood wanna be and dont even know how to act like a celebrity. they are so confused that anyone they american they see on T.V. doing a movie is hollywood. hollywood actors are in league of their own Denzel,Halle, etc are hollywood A-list if live in USA you would know likes of Anthony Handerson,Nia Long etc are not hollywood they are just black star power also known as C-Dlist. Ghanaian movie actors and actresses need training to act like celebrities they dont even know how to speak english properly, they are fat, faces full of pimples and fcuked up teeth etc but they want to be in hollywood. An actor gets denied a US visa, and you go on and on about how they cant speak English “properly” and how they have pimples on their faces and how some Ghanaian actors are fat etc. And to show us that your are a more “enlightened” person, you tell us that you have a US citizenship and you know what it takes to get a visa! Well, I may not be too wrong if I blamed the excessive influence of Television (US dominated tv) in your life…People who facilitate multi-national and multi-stakeholder processes will be quick to tell you that the lowest form of opinion (wisdom) anyone can have during such processes is when one thinks that his race, nationality or creed is superior to others’. If you would bother to check, you will realise that numerous US celebrities (and politicians) have been refused visas or have been banned from entering many countries for various reasons. Then again, if you would bother to step aside from your US dominated television, you will realise that there is a whole world outside of the US. This world includes SE Asia, Europe, the Far east, Africa, etc. You would be mildly amused to know that the American movie industry altogether (not just Hollywood) is smaller than Bollywood (Mumbai movie industry alone) both in terms of productions and outreach. You may be interested to know that some of the highest paid actors do not speak English and certainly not your so-called “proper english” (whatever that is).

I feel very sorry for them, as seeing in the pic they were happy and looking very much forward to go to USA.
But now here is my question many times you hear about all this Nollywood Gallywood awards held in the USA or London. What’s all that about? When I first heard about this award to take place in the USA I didn’t understand it.
And my understanding of all this is that, the embassy have seen this before with all the African awards taken place there and don’t see reason why the awards can’t take place in africa!!!!

What do we expect from Ghanaian celebrities? a private jet to whisk one from Tamale through Kumasi to Accra. it wont happen, our industry does not have the finances or sponsorship to pay up…..so next time we see a celeb with jacked up teeth, remember it cost about 5000 dollars to get your teeth done and look the part. When a movie like avatar cost 200million dollars and grosses 1.5 billion dollars in hollywood, the kitty is great to share, but if it costs 10000 dollars and grosses 100000 dollars on Ghallywood, what do you expect. Pay packets and rewards will be vast between the two so comparing the two is way off the mark at a time people are renting castles for 10000 dollars a nite you want to perch at your mates at brixton. Lets not make a fuss about celebs and visa refusals, every application is based and merit and if it dont stack up you dont get it simple…..even so called A-listers have been refused entry in many countries

the fact that they did not secure their visas does not make them worth less.these awards are signs of their hard work.,irrespective of where it is hosted.,it does not have to be only in africa that it can be hosted. other than this they need the contacts and chances to be able to meet other actors ,producers and directors ,to learn from each other.they need that exposure.how ca they meet up with the rest of the world ,if they do not attend gatherings like this.
@aida, sure meeting up with the rest of the world is dandy but don’t you think we should be building a more solid relationship with other african producers and directors around us before we proceed on to seek outside instruction? If the actors and actresses do not have a great and diverse background in acting right here in Africa, what good will the exposure do? I don’t blamed the USA embassy for refusing them visas, this programs has been turned into visa racketeering by our people from government officials, businessmen and the so called celebrities to the organizers of such programs. The consulates are now under strict scrutiny by Congress, FBI and DHS for the way they issue visas and who get a visa. Just this year we read and heard about how some of our so called celebrities were complaining in Europe of neglect by these organizers. Some of them said they have to borrow money for their up keep. Is this what we call celebrity? Even by looking at the list of nominees, I see nothing but a joke. The organizers think by attaching the name of the US president the embassy will be compelled to issue the visas. That is a big joke indeed.

Why is then every person in the movie industry wants to breakthrough to hollywood, i believe if these so caledl ghanaian stars had the oppportunity to star in a hollywood movie they wouldnt turn it down, as far as some stars being turned down for visas, its either their behavior eg snoop dog, or if am not mistaken rihanna was denied entry into one of these asia countries becos of either her lyrics or the way she dressed. @miss dior, Some actors don’t have english as their (native) language and they make quite decent sums of money Penelope Cruz, Selma Hayek , Famke Jenssen, Jean Claude Van Damme, Peter Stomare. List goes on some a multi millionaires some are not. But surely there are non-native english speaking actor/actresses who have made names for themselves. That’s undeniable.
@ghallday, All these actors that u mention, none of them speak their native lang in hollywood movies, maybe in their country, Salma hayek who is mexican, said in interviews when she came to hollywood she had to learn english fast, becos they wouldnt let her audition for roles, even though she was a big time actress in mexico. So yes, most of these movie stars english isnt their first lang, but to get work u have to learn n speak. benecio del toro n co, they r not americans but speak english, they earn decent money but they dont belong to the 20mil group yet.
