Vodafone’s 020 Live Rocked But Patrons Were Once Again Taken For Granted

After almost eight hours of music by the various artistes lined up for this year’s ‘020 Live Concert’ organized by Telecom Giant Vodafone, expectant fans were somewhat disappointed – not at the performance but the organisation of the concert.

The Dome of the International Conference Centre was filled to overflowing with lots of people standing outside, hoping they could come in to catch a glimpse of what was happening or maybe ‘not happening’ in the over 3,000 seater capacity Dome.

The hype ahead of the concert drew the numbers but show could not live up to expectation with patrons expressing their frustration every now and then at what could only be described as ‘being taken for granted’.

The likes of D-Cryme, VIP, and 5Five moved the dormant audience a bit when they were called on stage to perform but music lovers who gathered at the Dome are yet to be told what happened to the likes of R2Bees, D’Banj and lead artiste Trey Songs when it was their turn to come and entertain the audience.

R2Bees never turned up when they were introduced by MC’s Eddie Blay and astoundingly beautiful Amber Rose from the USA.

It took close to about 15 minutes for the next artiste to come on stage to perform after R2Bees failed to turn up. Just when everyone thought that probably was a hitch in the already lousy program the worst was yet to come.

When VIP exited in grand style after heating up the audience, Eddie Blay came on stage and in an attempt to chat up Amber Rose his co-MC for the night, he goofed massively and did not realize when the audience burst into laughter and he repeated the goof.

He intended saying ‘I hear when you CAME to Ghana you …’ but instead said “I hear when you COME to Ghana you …” and yes he repeated it.

Well at least that was timely relief for the audience some of whom had a good laugh but this laughter was not to last as D’Banj or the Koko Master as he is sometimes called took close 25 minutes to come on stage after he was introduce.

He did what he could and the audience had no option but to go along with him. He dropped all the popular hits from ‘Fall in love’ to his latest sensation ‘Oliver Twist’.

It was during D’Banj’s performance that R2Bees popped up on stage from nowhere singing about three of their popular songs including their latest one ‘Agyeii’. They left and D’Banj concluded his act.

After D’Banj, it was now time for the ‘Say Ahh” hit maker and lead artiste for the night Trey Songz.

Little did the audience know that they had to wait for an extra 36 minutes for him to show up. It was very discomforting according to some of the angry patrons who yelled “where is Trey Songz? ”

Unfortunately, very limited seats were provided and this left the audience with no option but to sit on the floor, some of them lying down as if they were in their homes.

This among other delays deducted so many marks from the entire show making it “ordinary” as some distraught patrons put it.

Trey Songs was fantastic, he did not only sing but performed, and got the entire attention of the audience especially the ladies who sang along with him through his entire performance.

The people started dispersing after they felt they had had enough of the ‘fresh’ looking American R & B star.

All in all ‘020 Live Concert’ 2011 powered by Vodafone has come and gone and patrons are looking forward to a much better and well organized concert for 2012.

  1. Say ‘AJEIIIII!!!!’ not ‘AHHHHHH’
I never feel pity for ignorant people. Look how many times must we Ghanaians give these so called event organisers the opportunity to prove to us that they don’t have their target audience at heart.? Look all those who attended deserve every frustration that they went through. And please to those who write these articles, please get us something more interesting. Cos there is no way the ignorants amongst us wld change no matter the number of publications to advice them .
