Ghana Movie Awards 2011: Which Movies Do You Think Will Make The Final Nomination List + Who Will Win The Best Actor & Actress Award?

To be honest with ourselves, aside the few things retarding the advancement of the growing Ghana Movie Industry, it’s an undeniable fact that 2011 [though not yet over] saw many movies being churned out on regular basis.

From where I’m standing and my job as an entertainment journalist offered me the opportunity to see most movies at press/media previews before they are eventually premiered to the general public and subsequently released onto the market for consumption.

I must in all sincerity confess that, I really saw some great movies produced in Ghana this year. I want to play it fair here and not mention a particular movie/s. If I do, it will derail the purpose of this write-up, which is to get the readers to guess their own movies and to be fair to other movies that from my perspective are nothing to write home about.

All too soon, another Ghana Movie Awards will take place on Christmas Day, December 25, 2011 at the Accra International Conference to acknowledge and award personalities in the country’s movie industry who have expelled in the year.

With more movies released in the year consisting of the ‘said’ 80 percent adoption stories, it will be interesting how the final nominations of the awards will look like. The 80 percent adoption stories can be disputed and it’s neither here or there since every story has been told before.

The final nominations of the 2011 Ghana Movie Awards will be unveiled to the press and general public in November at Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. Even before that day, I believe movie enthusiasts are keeping their fingers crossed.

Now let’s get talking and guessing. From the movies you have watched this year, which one do you sincerely think merits nominations in this year’s awards.

On the flip side, where do you think the Best Actor and Best Actress Award will go?

  1. I concur with GC that Ghana has seen some good movies in 2011. However movies i think will get the nominations are Shirley Frimpong Manso’s Adams Apple [ I dont know which particular chapter], Kwaw Ansah’s Good Old Days [ I dont know which particular one], Somewhere in Africa, Why Marry, Death After Birth … i wish i can remember all the movies. as for the actors adn actresses, it will be the same old the Jackie Appiahs, Nadia Buaris, Majid Michels, John Dumelos and the likes since Ghana doesnt have many stars

  3. I think it will be boring if e same old faces should win, im looking forward to seeing so new faces winning awards, i think they should create a sprcial category for new up and coming stars and another one for kid actors too, i hope that the most deserving ones will win this year n it wont be 2.3 or 4 people winning one award, if it doesnt happen in hollywood it shouldnt hsppen hear

    • @sweetness, Well to reply to your comment, i think Ghana has limited actors/actresses, so obviously the same guns will be up for nominations since they are the same people who feature in the movies. Also, its difficult to create a category like for a new discovery, at all how many new people get introduced in a movie? Trust me, same ppl will be winning for many years, unless of course the industry creates more stars.

  4. The movie industry in Ghana still suffers from people making movies on shoe string budgets. Poor production and bad acting… Shirley’s movie undoubtedly stands head and shoulders above all of them, which I imagine will give a lot of producers heart burn. Expect Shirley to sweep this years movie awards.

  5. Oh Ghana movie awards, here we go again, same old people. BORING!!!!
More focus on Twi actors/actresses and movies. They are doing much better and hard work then some of the English speaking people who at times gets more credit then work for.

Adams Apple… pure quality nice fashion fab story line. On top of the game. Without Okoro of cause, can’t stand that girl with her fake accent.

Others keep up the good work.

    • @kunle, I agree, I haven’t watched the movie, but judging from the trailer, the french girl was on top of her game…… I think she would go places if she continues like that..

  8. From past history, none of those movies have a chance against the maestro herself Leila Djansi’s ties that bind if it enters the award show. There is no public voting this time and I believe things will be done right!
