Readers’ Mail: Leila Djansi Quits Ghana & Will Shoot Next Movie In Bahamas- We Are Damn Tired Even, Leave Us Alone & Go With Your ‘Childish’ Attitude!

Leila Djansi
Leila Djansi

I was one of the few people who thought Leila Djansi was being hated on despite her creative prowess. However, after following her on facebook and reading many of her childish and unnecessary commentaries, attacks and counter attacks, I honestly think this grown ass woman is extremely CHILDISH.

She has been constantly threatening to vacate the Ghana Movie Industry and find refugee somewhere else. This is perfectly acceptable but my only problem is, she said the same thing after Sinking Sands and yet proceeded to work in Ghana again. Why can’t she shut up and just go? Is it force?

Apart from the above unnecessary statement she continues to make on several platforms, she seems to be of the notion that, without her existence in the industry (which I don’t even know if she really has legs in the Ghana Movie Industry), the industry will collapse.

I just read a recent interview Leila Djansi had on MyjoyOnline and it is apparent that, she is still running around like a headless chicken with her ‘I quit Ghana Movie Industry’ story, citing reasons such as people hating on her work among others.

This is how Myjoyonline puts it…

Movie Producer and Director, Leila Djansi has revealed that, after two stressful productions in Ghana, she will be shooting her third production in the Bahamas next year.

Leila, who disclosed this in an interview with Myjoyonline.com Friday, said the move has been necessitated by the several difficulties and challenges, like infrastructure and the lack of equipments, and what her crew and herself went through while shooting award-winning productions: Sinking Sands and Ties That Bind, in Ghana.

The article continues… Another reason she attributed for the decision not to shoot in Ghana is the unnecessary media pressure in Ghana.

“Having to deal with a little too much publicity – when I say publicity I mean like unnecessary publicity – certain things are not necessary so having to deal with all of that [is a problem]… Right now I am not in this business to be famous or popular, I just want to be able to tell stories so I feel like I want to work in an environment where nobody is going to know who Leila is or what Leila wore yesterday,” she lamented.

As an African movie lover, I know Leila’s exit will not be recognized; the same way her existence does not make any impact. After all, how many good movies has she gotten to her credit?

There are many talented and achieving Ghanaians out there with their mouth closed. People like Leila Djansi talk too much. They got to learn to shut up for once and quit all the CHILDISH comments they keep pouring out there in the media.

My 2 Cents!

  1. She can go to hell. Ya bre ne this woman. Is she the only film maker in Africa or Ghana? Are the others not already to shoot and do well with the same production materials lacking? As you rightly pointed, she talks too much crap. We don’t even get to see any of her movies so who cares?

    • @James, True talk, Leila is her own downfall, all she is facing in Ghana is caused by herself. Wo kasa too much. It is childish to think people should patronize your movies but they should not criticise or say what they think about you the movie maker or the movie itself.

My question is, when she finishes shooting in bahamas, where will she sell the movie? who will she sell the movie to? I hope she wont bring it to sell to Ghanaians and rather sell it to the people of bahamas because she keeps insulting Ghanaians  day in and day out

  2. Couldn’t agree with you more on this. SPOT ON! But in all honesty, she is a constantly improving director with great ambitions who sets out to make world class movies (though she doesnt quite get there yet). If nothing at all, her ability to mobilise is inspiring and her directing is improving.
That said, no one will disagree that she is the most childish Ghanaian ‘celebrity’. She has a rare complex that makes her over-react to everything around her and makes her think that the world (or Ghana) hates her! I would rather give sympathy rather than condemnation. She has a great the artistic mind, but when it comes to human relations, she has the mind of a pre-teenager (sorry to say). I love her art, and would want her to improve, whether in Ghana or in Iran. But she needs to seek help in dealing with this complex

  3. It is simple as ABC, this bish suffers from INFERIORITY COMPLEX and that is the source of her silly and  childish conduct. let her go and we will still be here. when did she start making movies anyway. before she came, we were here and we will be here if she goes . nonsense

  5. I kind of understand her at one point. I know from most of Nija movie makers, about the several difficulties and challenges, facing like infrastructure and others when making movies in Ghana or Nija. This was in a program I watched on BBC, and that was why most movies produced here (GH and NA) are mainly taking places indoors. But if she think she can do better else where… well then she should do it!!!
This is not something people should waist their time on!

      • @Amoah, do you know the number of times she has said she was going somewhere else for her movies?

she has said it before but didnt go anywhere. and my question is why must she announce to the whole world, its not like she needs permission from ghanaians.

am tired of the long talk but no action!

  7. I really wish she could close her eyes to all the negative publicity. She’s very talented. I bet Shirley,Pascal and the other go through all of these things. The problem is, she’s is too outspoken. I just wish her the best. Everywhere she goes she would be identified as a Ghanaian. It’s all good.

  8. what I find most unfortunate is that, the idiot who sent this readers mail sent it for 2 reasons. 1, so leila can be insulted and 2 this person added her as a “friend” on facebook to monitor her. this shows only one thing. you hate her and are jealous of her. I have followed her career and she never said after sinking sands that she’s leaving. it was after ties that bind that she said she is leaving.
if you hate her so much, you should not be worried about her leaving. who wants to work among th hate? the girl says she doesn’t like the pr she gets, like this very one here. it is not needed and if anyone is being childish here, it is whoever sent this mail. as you can see, it has not run into 80 comments of insults as usual because it is becoming common to know that leila is good, she speaks the truth and her works speaks for itself. you can insult her all you want, you only do it because you are jealous. go and read the entire article and hear her say she cannot afford to bring 6 hollywood stars to Ghana so she rather prefers to take them to a place where she can afford to take cast and crew and have all the materials she needs to make a good movie.
very soon, she will stop making movies you people can call Ghanaian because this kind of phd attitude we have in ghana is what is keeping us from developing.

whoever wrote this artcile should be ashamed of themselves because you added as a friend on facebook so that you can monitor her. thats hatred and jealosy. I am her friend on facebook too and there is nothing childish about anything she says. she speaks her mind and speaks the truth and ghanaians cannot handle the truth because we are cowards.

  9. First off Agatha is Leila.
I have observed Leila for sometime and I know why the bish doesn’t have a husband or at least a boyfriend, she complains too damn much! she is childish and quick tempered. You should see how she insults people on Facebook for telling her she’s wrong. Leila,go away ooooohhhh tom! we don’t care,we are tired. after all how many people have seen your so called world class movies in this country? mtseeew! When someone criticizes you, whether they hate you or not, a wise person would listen careful and take the best out of the criticism;but obviously you are not wise. Even Spielberg has challenges and gets hated as well. If you feel everyone should love you,you have inferiority complex.
