After the deadline for the submission of movies for the 2012 of the African Movie Academy Awards [AMAA] elapsed, 328 entries were received according to reports available to GhanaCelebrities.Com.
The 328 entries submitted for AMAA 2012 include 88 short films, 57 documentaries, 43 entries from Africans in Diaspora, 6 animations and 134 feature films.
According to our source, about 24 of the entries came from Ghana. Titles of movies from Ghana submitted were not readily known. The AMAA Jury is working vigorously for the final categorization and nominations which would be announced in Banjul, Gambia on Saturday March 17, 2012.
Since its inception in 2005, AMAA has established itself as the most prestigious and glamorous awards celebrating film-making on the continent. The gala event, which is televised live around the world, attracts Hollywood celebrities alongside their African counterparts, as well as African politicians and media.
“Our theme this year is Africa Rising,” says founder Peace Anyiam-Osigwe. “With the success of last year’s AMAA winner, Viva Riva, all of a sudden there’s this great awareness of the possibilities in Africa. It challenged the ideology of what African cinema is all about.”
African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2012 would be held in April in Nigeria, home to the world’s third largest film industry.
