EVENT REVIEW: Ghana ‘Beats’ Naija Again + Photos Of The MC-KOD

True to its hype, the second edition of the ‘Ghana Meets Naija’ musical face-off which took place on June 30 lived up to the expectations and has consequently been rated as the biggest show the year has seen so far.
The already established cordial relationship between Ghana and Nigeria aided in this concept which gives the opportunities to artistes who have banging hits in the year from thoese two countries to showdown on one platform.
Though not a competition, it was quite glaring that, the artistes representing the home team on the red, gold and green with a black five-pointed star in the centre of the gold stripe ‘outclassed’ their counterparts who represented the green and white colours.
The away team-Naija was at a numerical disadvantage as they had only five artistes on the bill, compared to as many as ten (Buk Bak didn’t perform) from the home country, Ghana.
The two opposing DJs, Ghana’s untouchable, DJ Mensa and Nigerian’s finest DJ Nepture both had the chance to entertain patrons for close to ten minutes each by dishing out hits upon hits after couple of performances.
It’s difficult to pin-point which of them stole the night as songs played by them were received by patrons and got them on their feet dancing.
His royal blackness, DJ Black excited and teased the patrons on the time table with mixes of various genre of music.
I didn’t really get the message in MC’s introduction as a pugilist. After a short introductory video, KOD appeared on stage dressed exactly how boxers dress before they make entry into the ring for a bout. Like I said, its either I didn’t get the message they tried to tell with the video or it wasn’t well conveyed in the sketch.
Unlike other events, I did like his custome designed in Ghana and Nigeria colours as it really defined the event.
Ghana, with the tall list of artistes, Kwaw Kese, Guru, Keche and 4×4 performances were something worth talking about due to the kind of songs they performed which was on the azonto tempo.
Kwaw Kese has always done something different on stage. His entrance wasn’t as great as we have seen him do before or as Lord Kenya or the late Terry Bonchaka would have done.
However, he mounted the stage dressed in bathrobe and lighted the auditorium as he performed his award winning song ‘Poppin’ featuring Dadie Opanka. He didn’t fail to get everybody dancing as he performed other songs.
Pressure boys, Keche also gave a good account of themselves. They managed to excite patrons with their biggest hit, ‘Aluguntugi’, which brought out the various azonto dance movements.
Dressed in ‘akata’ fashion, 4X4 proved why they are the hottest group in Ghana right now. If you were watching them for the first time, you were free to think they are on High School stage. But they gave the patrons more to cheer about and dance to, as they went through their repertoire of hits.
Nigeria acts-Brymo and Davido had an energy filled performance. Though they performed two songs each, they gave a good account of themselves. The first of the two, Brymo made good use of the stage as he moved from one end to the other to make sure everyone gets to feel his performance.
‘Dami Duro’ crooner, Davido backed by his hype man also replicated Brymo in making use of the big stage. Performing in Ghana for the first time and on a big platform, he didn’t appear intimidated.
Tiwa Savage’s sexiness aided her in giving out a nice performance.
Ghana’s R2Bees’ also had an interesting performance.
The slippery nature of the stage had several artistes falling. It started with Sala, who opened the show.  It continued with some of the artistes but Lousika was the biggest victim who actually fell flat while running to one end of the stage.
In terms of the attendance, Ghana had the numerical advantage but Nigeria redeemed itself in the performance department. Mr. Incredible M.I. brought the curtains down to another successful ‘Ghana Meets Naija’.
Hope GhanaCelebrities.Com will see you at the next one-NEXT YEAR!
