Dear GC Readers, I was Dumped A Day Before My Wedding In UK & Now He Wants Me Back…Totally Confused!

blank

Dear GC,

Just 6 months ago I can honestly say I was depressed and heartbroken after being jilted the day before my wedding day. I was so happy and confident on that day and I had no idea that could happen to me. I had been with my now ex for almost 4 years when he proposed to me.

I was so happy and had been hoping for this day to come as I loved him so much. The two families really came together to support us and arrange the wedding. He said he did not want a long engagement and so after the proposal we set a date.

I was wondering why the hurry as I was not expecting to walk down the aisle so soon after he proposed. As he insisted a date was set for three months after, I worked like a mad woman with my bridesmaids and family to arrange our wedding.

I guess I should have seen some signs as he didn’t get so involved in the preparation but my friend said this is normal and most men do not get involved in arranging and just got on with the planning and I had help so I didn’t feel too bad.

When my ex fiancée called me the night before the wedding to say he had travelled to Manchester where his best man lives and he cannot go through with the wedding, I actually dropped to the floor with the phone still in my hand. I didn’t cry until I was alone at night though my mum insisted I come back to their house instead of staying at the hotel.

I think she was scared of what I would do as she kept checking on me.  I cannot describe the heartbreak and the embarrassment of having to tell my family and bridesmaids. I refused to contact his family initially as I was too upset.

All this happened three months ago now, at the time he refused to pick my calls or speak to my people. Now last week he came to my work place and begged to speak with me. I didn’t want to speak to him because even though it’s been that many months I was still very upset.

After he pleaded I gave in as I also wanted to know why he could do that to me. He explained that he was put under pressure by his family and though he loved me he was not ready to marry me as he had just finished his masters and trying to establish his business.

INTERNET FRIENDS: Can One Really Find A True Friend Over The Internet?

blank
Before I became computer savvy, I asked myself if one can truly find a true friend via the internet. And for years, my answer had always been “no.”  There was MySpace, which teenagers mostly used, then Facebook, which attracted all ages.
An old friend from high school told me that most of the old students of St. Mary’s Secondary School at Korle Gonno were on Facebook, so I should join.  She persuaded me for a while until I finally joined in the summer of 2009.
Indeed, it was a life changing experience. Within weeks, I had several request from my former high school friends who seemed thrilled to see me finally come around to being a part of Facebook. Through Facebook, I have been able to make contacts with old friends as far back as primary school (Field Engineers Primary) at Teshie camp.  I have been able to exchange phone numbers with some, so we can talk every now and then.
Ok, so all these friends are people I already knew from primary and secondary school, so it’s no big deal meeting them on Facebook.
But I have also met true and genuine friends on Facebook that I didn’t previously know from anywhere.  Since joining Facebook in 2009, I have met very decent, true, and genuine friends.  I met the current journalist of the year via Facebook, and he actually came to my house to visit me when I went to Ghana last year after I called him upon my arrival.

The One Man Churches: When God Calls You Into Ministry; Does It Mean You Should Establish Your Own Church?

Recently, I have heard some musicians turned pastors because they believe God has called them into it.  I have also seen and heard many people that have all gone into pastoring because they feel it is their calling.  When you look around Ghana, USA, and the UK, you will find many different churches with very … Read more

LIFESTYLE: What Are You Eating? If You Eat Like An Elephant, You Grow Like An Elephant…

blank
This is a dicey topic and I may touch a few already frayed nerves but kindly forgive me in that regard.
Just yesterday I was having a conversation with a friend who is a natural health doctor concerning food, diets, health and the like. On the other hand, I also have many friends big, small, tall, short, bloated, deflated (ha-ha) and all other forms who have been hooked on one diet or the other with no results. From pepper to bitter leaf concoctions.
But while they are drinking all these concoctions, they are sitting or lying on the couch 24/7.
Most of these women haven’t lost a kilogram in years. Some lose a kilogram today and pack on three tomorrow!  I am dwelling on women because not many men are engaged in the battle of weight.
Well I have tried a few of these concoctions myself which usually come in the most disgusting tastes.
But according to my doctor friend, there is no miracle diet. No, No overnight weight loss that is safe.

Ghana High Commission Uk Hosts Second Edition Of Biannual Event – Ghana Youth Day

blank
The Ghana High Commission UK and Ireland will be holding the second edition of its biannual event, the Ghana Youth Day. The focus of Ghana Youth Day is to encourage young people to achieve their goals without resorting to gun and knife crime which continues to affect the black community.
After the death of another teenager from the Ghanaian community, the Ghana High Commission supported by Tullow Oil – the event’s main sponsor – recognises the importance of such an event geared towards the future of tomorrow – the youth.
The day will showcase the talented and successful from the Ghanaian / black community who have been characterised as ‘Achievers’. This is to emphasise the message that with dedication and hard work, young people are able to be the person they aspire to be like the achievers in attendance. The event theme ‘Our Youth; Our future’, has continued on from its predecessor as it is understood that there is still more to be achieved for the benefit of young people and the wider community.  We anticipate that the high calibre of achievers involved will continue the vision that success is possible for all without the need for resorting to a weapon.

Ghana Youth Day will be held at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham. This is significant to the day as Tottenham is one of the areas notably affected by gun and knife crime, has a large Ghanaian community and also the starting point of last summer’s riots. We feel that Ghana Youth Day is playing its part in rebuilding the community.
The event will see young people being given the opportunity to discuss issues with their peers, participating in talks hosted by various speakers and Q&A session with the Achievers. Notable patrons to the event will include the award winning actor, Hugh Quarshie, ITV newsreader, Charlene White and the Ghana Youth Day patron, premiership footballer Emmanuel Frimpong. Other notable attendees are yet to be confirmed.
Ghana Youth Day is supported by Google who will be leading the TKC-Employability Skills Session and will also carry out a CV drop in session.  The event is also supported by various organisations from the Ghanaian community including: Ghana Union, Noble Friends, The Knowledge Channel,  Akwaaba UK, Ghanaian Londoners, Afro Pulp and MeFiri Ghana.
