Finalists of this year’s Miss Ghana pageant on Wednesday, saved a new born child and her mother from embarrassment when they footed their hospital bill at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The child’s mother had been frustrated days before the Miss Ghana 2012 team’s visit, after it became obvious help wasn’t coming her way.

It took the kind and human intervention of the contestants, who were on a day’s working visit to the Maternity Ward of the hospital, to save her from further humiliation.

Visibly touched by the plight of the child and her mother, the contestants spontaneously contributed various sums of money to pay off her hospital bills.

The contestants also gave her some additional money for upkeep.

She thanked the contestants for their kind gesture, and wished them well.

Ghandour Cosmetics, a major sponsor of the Miss Ghana 2012 event, supported the visit by the finalists to the maternity ward, by donating a variety of products, which included mattresses.

A special documentary on their visit, which will also highlight some of the challenges the Maternity Ward faces, will be aired subsequently to raise funds to refurbish the ward, officials of Exclusive Events Ghana say.

The visit to the facility forms part of the group’s Beauty With a Purpose agenda, and comes days before the November 10 national finals.

This year’s Miss Ghana finals promises to be exciting, officials have said.
