Gyedu Blay Ambolley Brags About Being Bigger Than MUSIGA And Still Bears Grudges Against Obour

Even though he lost woefully the Musicians Union of Ghana [MUSIGA] Presidency to Hiplife artiste, Obour in August 2011, in the spirit of togetherness, many expected that, as an experienced musician, Gyedu Blay Ambolley will behave well and use his fatherly figure and rally behind the Union for the common fight for all musicians in the country.

But his attacks on Obour’s presidency whenever he gets the opportunity is very terrible and staggering, especially from someone who claims to have the Union’s issues at heart.

Placing third in the race for the presidency with four contenders with just 24 votes as against 64 for Obour, Ambolley should have kept his cool and either observe or support the administration, instead of perhaps throwing tantrums every now and then.

This is because, the difference in their votes means, musicians or entire membership of MUSIGA in general were confident in Obour with a younger mind than him [Ambolley] with perhaps an old and fragile mindset.

Regardless, Ambollely is a respected Ghanaian musician. At his age, he has achieved a lot for himself and has represented the genre he finds himself in to the best of his ability. But certain utterances from him make people feel that he’s a bad loser.

In a recent interview with Flex Newspaper, Ambolley stated that, he will not contest the MUSIGA presidency again because his name is much bigger than the Union.

It’s very amazing and strange that, little over a year ago, Ambolley desperately wanted to head the Union, so what has changed about the Union now that he feels bigger than? What has even changed about himself in this short space?

He said, “I won’t at all contest again”, continuing that “but if they deem that I should do something for the betterment of musicians in Ghana, fine with me otherwise not again but I will still continue doing the best that I can to help musicians but in all, everything is in the Lord’s hands.’’

The veteran highlife musician also said that, he bears no grudges against Obour saying that, “When we meet outside, we talk alright but in this business there has to be respect because the experience I have musically and administratively, I don’t think Obour has it.’’

Ambolley believes Obour was planted in MUSIGA by the Diana Hopeson led administration to cover up their rots which would have been exposed if he had won and assumed office as MUSIGA President.

He said: “I have said this many a times that heading such a huge organization as MUSIGA isn’t a ‘child’s’ play but because the former administration were afraid that if he was voted in as the President of MUSIGA, their ‘rots’ would be exposed, they needed someone to cover their deeds up.”
