Ghanaian Movie Industry, A Real Business Or Some Child Play? Do You Know Star Actors-Jackie Appiah and Adjetey Anang Were Spotted Changing Costumes In A Car Park?

Over the years, we have written several articles taken a shot at the flight route of the Ghana Movie Industry, mostly considering the profitability of the whole business venture.

You do not have to be told amount the many low quality and thoughtless story line movies that have sustained the Ghanaian Movie Industry up to today. The question is; how long can this go on for now that African movie enthusiasts are being bombarded with great movies from other parts of the continent?

The end product of any enterprise depends on the input vessel and energy. The poor way movie makers conduct their businesses in Ghana shows clearly in the substandard movies we find in our markets.

Several reports have in the past indicted Ghanaian film-makers for the poor treatment they give to our actors and actresses on set-what they eat, drink, where they sleep and the costumes provided to them.

When you hear household names like Jackie Appiah, Adjetey Anang, Yvonne Nelson,  Nadia Buari and others, you will reasonably assume that, these people are at least made to feel comfortable on movie sets.

However, a recent report has revealed that our actors do struggle to have basic things such as changing rooms when on set.

On a recent Venus Films set at the A&C Shopping Mall at East Legon, Jackie Appiah and Adjetey Annan were caught using the public car park as their changing rooms.

Though Adjetey Annan is reported to have uncomfortably said it was “Asaba style” as called in Nigeria, it brings to light the harsh working conditions these people endure. No wonder majority of our movies come out as a child play.

For Jackie Appiah, she was seen struggling to maintain her dignity as a woman by changing in a car.

Can you even fathom the humiliation these top actors had to endure by having to change costumes this way, simply because one of biggest movie production houses in Ghana-Venus Films couldn’t provide a common mobile truck which could house the bathrooms, changing rooms, and also double as offices for crew members.

I wouldn’t even change my shirt at a car park and here we have Jackie Appiah and Adjetey Anang doing more than this, all because they have to work with unprofessional people who do not care about anything apart from the profit they will make.

Though I am blaming Venus Films for failing to provide an enclosed space for these actors to ensure that they enjoy their dignity as human beings and celebrities for that matter, I can’t fail to ask; don’t these people have managers who can make certain BASIC demands before signing a movie contract?

GOSH! Anytime I am slapped with such things, it reminds me of what a friend once asked-Do you really have celebrities in Ghana?

If he want our industry to last, then the way we do things must change and it must change now!

  1. SAD: We surely have a long way to go in Ghana.Even look at the car park, where are the demarcated parking slots? The rains must have washed the lines away and yet, no one seems to care to paint them back! Hmmmmmmm

If one person hits another’s car, how will one establish who parked well and who did not? Must the white man come and do this for us too?

Do you hate Ghana? You never say anything good about the country. Thats why we are called a developing country, you don’t expect us to change instantly and start doing things like developed countries..its a process of learning and changing our ways at the same time. What have you done to paint them back? All you do is talk talk talk ,yet you do nothing.

      • @ato, this is what happens when you are not educated properly and have no other career apart from acting. I guess her pocket is empty so she will result to any offer. I believe this n other issues were the reason why Yvonne Nelson used to have problems with directors and they branded her as arrogant and disrespectful and they trie to
ruin her career. But I am glad that through determination and hard working she is a boss on her own.

    • @27cдгibre(Ф_ф), disrespect you say, huh. Quest. Did anyone force them to take the offer? Answer – No
They are broke so they will accept any offer. Years back when Yvonne Nelson was complaining about how directors treat actors, they branded her as disrespectful and arrogant. Why? Because she was the only person to fight against it.

Now see where Yvonne is. She might not have it all but shes making the dough herself. I don’t think Yvonne will accept this kind of treatment. She would have walk of from the set.

They dont value themselves that much and so they will result to any offer but I dnt blame them much cos when you are jobless you will take any job that comes your way. 🙁

  5. chris just like emma said does Nigeria have to be factored into every Ghanaian problem, I have never heard of the asaba style coinage, I guess you brought that up as a consolation to say we are not the only ones doing something wrong, Nigeria is also doing the same, yet you are the ones that will say Nigerians don’t mind their own business and are always bugging Ghanaians.

  6. To be borrow Mr. Omari West’s infamous words, “I’m so appalled”. And to think we had a movie “industry” .. smh .. Tf is up with these self-styled movie “producers” or makers or whatever they’re called ? Now who’s supposed to provide changing rooms on set? Couldn’t that person atleast arrange for a makeshift changing room? It’s high time these movie makers woke up.. Hell, they’ve been asleep for too damn long. And you want the end-product to be recognised and awarded ?? Lol what a joke! For what?? And I quite agree with Chris. Part of the blame should be put on the doorsteps of Jackie’s agent or manager or whatever.. I mean does he consider the conditions his client is gunna work in or he’s just thinking bout his cut ? It aint even funny no more.
