Channel O Sponsors 2013 Ghana Music Awards

Multichoice Ghana this week, announced that Channel O will sponsor the 2013 Ghana Music Awards Festival, which takes place in Accra on the 18th of May 2013.

The Ghana Music Awards is considered to be the biggest and most important event on the Ghanaian music industry calendar, and comprises of a series of events which will climax with an awards night on 18th May 2013 at the Accra International Conference Centre at which a representative of Channel O will present an award to the winner of the Best African Act category.

Channel O started transmission in the early 1990s and is a leader in music television and the most highly regarded outlet for African talent and videos on the planet. Targeted at youth with the rhythm of Africa in their soul, Channel O is renowned for its ability to bring home the hottest musical programming from across the continent. Channel O’s main focus is African music from artists within Africa and the Diaspora. The channel broadcasts a variety of music such as Hip hop, Kwaito, Mbhaqanga, African and International Gospel and many other genres.

The channel is well known for its interactive programming, most notably O-News, Volt, Speaker Box, Introducing and Featuring as well as the production of the Channel O Music Video Awards, also known as Spirit of Africa Music Video Awards are Pan-African music awards which were first held in 2003 under the name Reel Music Video Awards.

The following Ghanaian artistes have won awards at the Channel O Music video Awards: D-Black (2012 Channel O Music Video Award for Most Gifted West African Video), Samini (2011 Channel O Music Video Award for Most Gifted Reggae/Dancehall Video) and VIP (2005 Channel O Music Video Award for Best Group in Africa).

Commenting on the sponsorship, Leslie Kasumba, the Channel Manager for Channel O expressed her delight with Channel O’s involvement in the 2013 Ghana Music Awards. “Ghana has one of the most interesting music industries on the continent at the moment, with some of the most prolific rappers and vocalists. You can make mention of Azonto, a dance style and music genre which has become an international craze. At this point, I wish all nominees the best of luck”.

She also took the opportunity to encourage Ghanaian musicians to submit their videos at any of the three Multichoice Ghana offices nationwide to be considered to be aired on Channel O. Having sponsored the Ghana Music Awards in 2013 and also several times before, Channel O will continue to maintain a long standing relationship with Charterhouse for the Ghana Music Awards and other great initiatives.
