Former President-Jerry John Rawlings and several Ghanaian diplomats were recently lured to the premiere of a new local movie- Nkuli , which is about an HIV patient and it seems Rawlings was not impressed.
After the movie, he spoke to Joy News about what he called ‘over dramatization’, requesting that the local film-makers should try to be real with their presentations. At this stage, I can say, I think Rawlings has never watched any of the English movies where everything is over dramatized or over –expressed.
Rawlings is reported to have said “I think what we ought to do is to be truthful to themselves, to be realistic as possible, bring things home to people. Don’t over dramatise it, don’t create undue melodrama because there is enough drama in our lives, there is enough pain in our lives.”
The acting really gets irritating when it comes to expression of emotions and sentiments in African movies—and it seems our Ghanaian actors/actresses do it worse. The moment they start, you can spot it is all FAKE, nothing close to reality…
I hope more people begin to point out the flaws as Rawlings has done so that the movie-makers who want to make real impact can adjust.
