BullDog Granted Bail as the Human Rights Court Says His Detention is ‘Unconstitutional’

For whatever reasons, the Accra Central Magistrate Court presided over by Mavis Nyamaa Quanoo failed to grant BullDog (real name Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson) bail last week when the Lawyer of BullDog-Gary Nimako mounted arguments that the charges of Conspiracy and Murder leveled against his client were frivolous as the prosecutor had not been able to link BullDog in anyway to the murder of Fennec Okyere…

To the shock of many, the above Court remanded BullDog into police custody for two weeks to enable the police continue with their investigations, just as the prosecutor had requested…

Today, it has emerged that the Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court has granted BullDog bail inline with his lawyer’s request that, the holding and continuous detention of BullDog breaches his fundamental Human Rights—and not in line with procedural rules.

Though BullDog will appear in Court on 2nd June, 2014 to fight against the two charges of Conspiracy to commit Murder and Murder, he is a free walking man today—-and he can go about his business as such.

Without any strong evidence, the principle of innocent until proven guilty must be adhered to, and as such holding persons in detention for more than lawfully necessary even if ordered by a Court can be in violation of the rule of law.

  1. I am very surprised that, the human rights court has to intervene to get Bulldog bailed. He shouldn’t have been remanded in the first place.

  2. He shouldn’t have been arrested in the first place. His arrest was indeed unconstitutional. I said it in the beginning but unfortunately, my naive fellow bloggers castigated me for stating the obvious. It shouldn’t have taken the Human Rights Court to intervene on Bulldogs behalf. The Police knew all along that, his frivolous arrest/detention has no basis but they kept him in remand anyway. The deceased needs justice so that he can finally rest in peace; but the way the Police is going about the whole case is very disappointing. I really pray and hope that, more evidence will suffice soon to help the police nail the criminal behind bars for life.

  3. He is fortunate to have been granted bail but he must pray harder if he is innocent but if he is guilty, then justice should prevail!!
