Hurray…Rotary Club of Accra – Cantonments Commemorates Its 1st Anniversary!

Yesterday members of the Rotary Club of Accra – Cantonments (16th June, 2014) celebrated the club’s first anniversary. The club, which is made up of 33 members, was chartered on June 12, 2013. Among other things, the Rotary Club of Accra – Cantonments has seen substantial progress in terms of its membership and other areas since the club was instituted.

The first anniversary, which was held at the Midindi Hotel in Cantonments, was used as a platform to launch the service projects for the Rotary Club in the years 2014/2015. Some of the proposed projects include: Eye Care project at James town, ICT project, Water and Sanitation project in the Eastern region, Bus stop shed and branding, and Lighted signage at the Cantonments Police Station.

In an interview with GhanaCelebrities.Com, Hilda De Souza, President of the Rotary Club of Accra – Cantonments, disclosed that, the club has been able to support a library project at the Rangoon Cluster of Schools. According to her, the club provided the school with about 4,000 textbooks, as well as storybooks, for their Primary and Junior High levels with a total cost of GHS 8,500.

Not only that, the club also supported the Weija leprosarium with items like rice, oil, milk, etc. during the Easter festivities. Madam Hilda De Souza made it clear that these were all donations from members of the Rotary Club of Accra – Cantonments.

She further stated that, they were able to partner with Rotary International to provide medical support to communities such as Maamobi, Malata, etc. The support, according to Hilda De Souza, included laboratory test, free distribution of treated insecticide nets, malaria tests, and others.

Responding to a question GhanaCelebrities.Com posed at her regarding the way forward for the Rotary Club of Accra – Cantonments, Hilda De Souza stated; “Rotary runs a yearly affair. The current executives will hand over to new executives on 30th June, 2014. The new president and the board will be expected to undertake about 4 of the proposed projects in the coming Rotary year (1st July, 2014 to 30th June, 2015).”

Members of the Rotary Club of Accra – Cantonments were presented with “The four-way test” of the things we think, say or do (a nonpartisan and non-sectarian ethical guide used by Rotarians world-wide as a moral code for personal and business relationships) and charter pins during the program.

The event was attended by other dignified Rotary Club members across Greater – Accra region, as well as invited guests. The Rotary Club of Accra – Cantonmentsis part of Rotary International District 9102.
