Castro Has Been Gone for 1 Week | What We Know & What We Don’t Know So Far…

On 6th July, 2014 (exactly a week ago) Ghanaian musician-Castro De Destroyer (real name Theophilus Tagoe) was reported missing with his alleged girlfriend-Janet Bandu while jet skiing on the Ada river—after having gone there with his football star friend, Asamoah Gyan.

Even though the news of Castro’s disappearance which quickly turned into death appeared online at around 14:00 GMT, we’ve so far learnt that, Castro and Janet may have gone missing far earlier—at around 10am since their empty Jet Ski was found near an island at around 11-12:00 GMT.

It has been alleged that Castro De Destroyer was wearing a life jacket but Janet Bandu who sat at the back of the Jet Ski was not wearing any. And the question has been, if indeed he was wearing a life jacket, how come he has gone missing (drowned)?

Interestingly, the above question paved way for several assumptions such as, Castro took off his life jacket to save Janet and consequently, Castro the rescuer got drowned with Janet.

So far, this remains a possible hypothesis, because no one can claim to have seen this happening—and also, if he took the life jacket off, where did it go? It was only a keyless Jet Ski that was found at the other end of the estuary where Castro and Janet were believed to have drowned.

The Many Theories

Castro and Janet Bandu’s death or missing (if you are one of those who like such to be said) has been surrounded by countless theories—both reasonable and unreasonable. The assumptions are countless but the facts are just a few, making the disappearance or death a mystery.

Some have come out to say, the two are with a certain sea goddess (popularly known as Maame Water in Ghana)—who even told us such a spirit or personality exists? Again, the existence of such a spirit has not been established, except being claimed by some people who present themselves as having some sort of connection with this spirit…

The absence of any logical, reasonable and scientific explanation as to what happened means, the absurd theories will continue to unfold.

Apart from the two having been said to be ‘chilling’ with Maame Water while we worry about them on earth, others have come to say, they must have been abducted. And the question should be, by whom and for what?

Also, some have come out strongly to say Janet Bandu is a marine spirit herself, and she was sent to the earth to help bring Castro to the underwater world.

There is a group of people who also believe, the whole Castro and Janet’s disappearance was an attempt at pulling a publicity stunt for Castro—but it got out of hands, making it difficult for Castro and Janet to come out of their hiding place. Pretty plausible but hugely ridiculous…

The Many Blame Games

For whatever disaster that befalls anyone in this world, someone must be blamed and if we cannot reasonably find anyone to blame, we sometimes even push the blame on the back of nature.

While Janet Bandu’s family has been blaming Castro for being responsible for their daughter’s demise, some people have also been calling Janet Bandu’s family irresponsible—for not even knowing the whereabouts of their daughter at any point in time.

As the two families sit on each other’s neck, shifting blame from one corner to another, the general Ghanaian population also needed to blame someone. As usual, it started from blaming President Mahama and to be frank, I don’t know how President Mahama can be blamed for anything in connection with this…

But then, if Jordan Ayew has been brought in as the cause of Castro’s death, it is not shocking that President Mahama has been apportioned a blame too.

According to those blaming Jordan Ayew, if the footballer had passed the ball to Asamoah Gyan in the Ghana vrs Germany match, Asamoah would have scored—and that would have meant that, Ghana would have still be part of the on-going 2014 Brazil World Cup.

And if Ghana was in there, Asamoah Gyan would have been in Brazil by now. Meaning, there was no way Castro would have been dead or be at Ada because it was Asamoah Gyan who invited or took him there. What a long chain of events just to blame Jordan Ayew…

Despite the numerous blame games, only a few have blamed the Jet Ski hiring company/the resort or even Castro and Janet themselves—for any part they played in what seems like a negligent accident. If Castro indeed had a life jacket and Janet did not have one, he should not by any means (forget any sort of coercion) have allowed her to jump on the Jet Ski with him.

And for the resort, what do they actually do to ensure that those who hire their machines do not pick non-life jacket wearing passengers or who even checked to make sure Castro’s life jacket functioned properly?

The Fake Spiritualists, Pastors and Mallams

Though the disappearance of Castro and Janet is a hard knocking one, some individuals who claim to be men of God or men of the spiritual world have turned developments into a comedy show.

Apart from the Mallam who nearly got drowned for attempting to bring Castro back from the Ada River, we’ve even heard the Maame Water herself speaking, saying, she has Castro with her. Surely that is some fake audio…

We’ve also had spiritualists making eye-popping claims such as, they know where Castro is and with the payment of some amount for rituals, they can bring Castro back from the spirit/underwater world.

GhanaCelebrities.Com was told, Asamoah Gyan paid one of these spiritualists to perform the demanded ritual capable of bringing Castro back to us. The fact that we do not have Castro with us today shows that, the spiritualist was as fake as all those we’ve heard and seen so far…

The Unnecessary Interference/Mockery

For some, Castro’s death is the perfect tool for them to make mockery out of the deceased, his family and career.

From drawings of Castro holding Maame Water on a can of Sardine called ‘Castro Sardine’ to phrases such as, Castro Under fire has turned into Castro Under water; these people continue to make unimaginable jokes—unfettered by any sense of sympathy.

The Facts so Far…

What we’ve been told for a fact is that, Castro and Janet Bandu’s bodies have not still been found. It looks like this is the only fact we have today…

The other derivate fact we have is; we have countless fake prophets, spiritualists, mallams and pastors in our midst—with no power/no affiliation with God or any spirit. They are scammers who prey on those in need.

  1. 1. How long does it take a drowned body to float?

    2. Are they sure they are searching the right areas?

I’ve had these questions on my mind since the third day and its a week now. Sometimes i believe they are not dead but for now, i will keep waiting and hoping for positive news.

    • From what I’ve heard from the fishermen and the experts, when a body gets drowned, it takes 2-3 days to be washed ashore—or float. And after 2-3 days, it will SINK back into the water (I guess that is science, the density of the corpse will make it sink)

  2. The Jordan Ayew blame is funny. What kind of nonsense blame is that? Also, do we know if castro and the girl were drunk or what because if people are on a weekend away, alcohol is mostly their best companion

  5. A Nation is not defined by it’s natural resources. it is defined by it’s people, how they come together and respond or react to tragedy regardless of big or small it is. Ghanaians have so far not impress me at all. Sometimes I wonder if we just choose to ignore the truth and deliberately sensationalize everything, or it’s just crass stupidity. Ever since Castro got drowned. We’ve heard ridiculous accusations, absurd remarks, insane analysis, mind boggling explanations and insensitive jokes. Why can’t we be serious for once and see things how they really are? Why must we always make jokes out of everything situation? As far as this Castro case is concerned, there are more questions than answers. But it looks like we are not asking the right questions. (1) were the victims intoxicated before getting on the jet ski? (2) why didn’t the resort workers give Janet a life jacket? (3) what measures are in place to insure passenger safety and security? (4) Are there lifeguards on duty everyday at the resort? (5) Is there any insurance policy to compensate victims families in case of an accident? By the way, in my humble opinion the blame should be on the resort owners.

  6. I was told gas/air contained in the body make it float to the surface, but if air is expelled, the body will sink to the bottom and never rise. At this point they need divers if ghana has any to get to the bottom to look, using a boat to look around isnt enough. If they stay at the bottom for too long, the fishes might make food out of them. Its a terrible tragedy that has happened to these two, unfortunately ghana doesnt have the resources/machines to look for them quickly. Rip Castro, his collab with Sarkodie on Adonai, stay on repeat.
