The undefeated Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather extended his record to 47-0 (26 Kos) with a comfortable unanimous points victory over Argentine Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather won on the cards of all three judges, who scored the bout 115-112, 116-111, and 116-111.

It was a much more comprehensive victory this time around from Mayweather, who earlier this year won a controversial split point decision over the Argentine in a match many thought he should have lost.

Mayweather responded to the critics in style, comfortably seeing off Maidana this time with little trouble, even finding the time to dance around the ring the last couple of rounds as he had built up an insurmountable lead by then.

Mayweather began as he always does, dancing out of his opponents shots and hitting sharp ripostes whenever he caught them off guard.

Unlike in the first fight, where he struggled to cope with Maidana’s intensity, it worked better this time. Mayweather comfortably won six of the first eight rounds, before he started complaining of Maidana’s antics.

After the first fight in May, Floyd complained about Maidana being a dirty fighter, and he felt he had further cause to complain during this fight. In the eighth round, he went up to the referee shouting that Maidana bit him, and the Argentine was later ducked a point for tripping Mayweather in the 10th round.

But Floyd hung on to grab the win, saying he felt he had boxed better in the first fight.

“I felt sharper in the first fight, my rhythm was off. I got hit with some shots tonight I shouldn’t have got hit with, but that comes with the sport”

Maidana for his part, like back in May felt he had won the fight. But he would find less people agreeing with him this time around, because Floyd gave out a master class in boxing, as he has done so often in his career.

After a hectic few months, during which his status of being boxing’s pound for pound king had been severely disputed, he had come under attack for seemingly supporting Ray Rice, and faced repeated domestic abuse charges himself; Mayweather has restored some normalcy with this win, re-establishing his position at the top of the boxing food chain.

At the rematch bout, R&B star Monica performed the US National Anthem (Star-Spangled Banner).

Monica absolutely showed how a true vocalist she was by giving the crowd and viewers a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner. She effortlessly sang the National Anthem hitting all the high notes. Great vocal performance!
